I've been visiting tangent regularly for my clothing for around two years, and have had nothing less than a stellar experience every time I have been in. The staff are personable and helpful, and most of all are passionate about their business. If you're looking for vintage menswear, this is the place to go.

I really like this store. A great selection of quality, vintage menswear at fair prices. They do a great job of sourcing quality products far better than any other thrift store. The in-store customer service is friendly, helpful, and fantastic. However, I can only rate Tangent 3-4 stars but decided 3 was too harsh for their business. The only thing that lets this place down is that they simply cannot honour their opening hours and on several occasions, I have travelled there only to find a closed store. Store opening time isn't stuck to and some days they just aren't open. Google's opening hours can't be trusted nor can the hours sign on their door and the number of times I have wasted travelling there is simply annoying and a bit rude. I'll continue to shop here because they are great, but please call ahead and ensure they are open before making a trip to see them.*Edit: I'll keep my review above the same because there is a lot to like about this place and I'd like others to see the initial review and the response from the business. I am however reducing the stars from four to two because while the service isn't really great as highlighted below, the selection remains fantastic. However, after the response to what I hoped would be seen as a fair review, as well as the response to another customer's review, it's disappointing to see that asking to stick to hours they themselves have posted has been met with such hostile responses. Also, please read the 'About' tab to get an idea of the owner's mindset as I only just did. I feel for him as a sole operator and I wasn't aware of some of the challenges, but the attitude is simply rude. Perhaps you don't remember me from my Google profile but I've bought quite a bit of stuff from Tangent over the past couple of years and have easily spent over $1,000 in on suits, shirts, jackets, and an Air NZ bag from quick calculations. But ok, your response is clear, and the service is only amicable when we are opening our wallets in the store. We've always had pleasant chats and you were always friendly and courteous in-person. But as requested, I certainly won't be back, nor will I have good things to say about this business moving forward. In fact, it's now my go-to example of fake customer service and a great example of someone being a nice guy." I'm sad it ended this way."

Absolutely the finest place in the country for vintage menswear. Well priced, and curated, there's heaps of quality NZ made stock and no junk to sift through. I've been shopping here for a couple of years now and I can't recommend Tangent enough. They even sew their own carry bags!

I love Tangent! Theres no other store that stocks genuine NZ made vintage items. Theres also locally made accessories and homewares so its hard to leave empty handed. The service is amazing, each piece has its own story and their happy to share.I scored some corduroy flares from the 70s, the best fit and quality!

This is the Most Damper Retail Store with the Most Unique and 1 off one's fits in wellington!My favourite clothing & Hat Store!& the Owner is a absolute gentleman!!Very Responsive pricing.If your tired of the generic Clone look everyone else is wearing.This is a Must Visit!Highly recommend!

Love this store, love the clothes, love the owners as well. Feels like the last vestige of 'old Cuba st', one that is not owned by a chain and that still has fantastic products for reasonable prices. 10/10.
