Ray's Rest Camping Reserve
Very beautiful freedom camp spot (SC only). Along the sea, looks a lake, in front of coromandel. Nice and quiet during the night. I really enjoyed that place. Thanks for that.

Ray's Rest Camping Reserve
Ray's Rest is a great and very convenient overnight freedom camping spot for SC vehicles on the East Coast Road between Auckland to the Coromandel Peninsular. It's right by the beach on the Firth of Thames, in an open, sunny situation. Very popular with New Zealanders and likely to be packed out in summer weekends so get there early. There are no facilities whatsoever so self containment is a must. Nearby is the Shorebird Centre, hides for excellent shorebird watching, the famous Kaiaua fish and chip shop and the Miranda hot pools.

Ray's Rest Camping Reserve
Fantastic place to camp and enjoy the view and chats with the other campers. 2 day stay is a bit short, needs to be 3. Had 2 cars come in and started doing donuts right outside some campers, NOT COOL we want to feel safe.

Self contained vehicles only.We arrived after dark, so we didn't get to see anything until morning. It was the perfect spot, nice and level, lots of room right next to the water with picnic tables as well.

Really good place for 1 night. Beautiful sunset it's flat and very quiet (no traffic at night). Can be very windy and must get quickly full during summer time.

Ray's Rest Camping Reserve
Beautiful sunset to the west and beautiful sunrise to the east. Very busy but all visitors were tidy and quiet. Beautiful cows just over the road with calves in summer. The beach is right parallel to where you will park up - and is covered in beautiful shells.
