Don was an amazing tour guide around some of the Bays best vineyards. We had the VIP tour enhanced by Don ‘opening doors’ so we could trying a number of top wines highlighting the best of the best. My wife and I have been on numerous private wine tours but have never had such a great experience as provided by Don. His expertise is incredible and he is willing to explain and pass on years of knowledge and experience. We learnt more in one day with Don than all the previous tours. He is extremely well respected in the region and we were treated to some great wines selected by Don at each of the wineries we visited. If you love wine and want to learn about what it takes to produce great wines make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to spend the day with Don.

Had the pleasure of completing a tour with Don a couple of weeks ago with a group. As the least wino" amongst the group Don made what I thought was going to be a bit of a ho-hum experience into a fantastic one! Don's knowledge and passion for all things wine and the Hawkes Bay region made the tour simply a delight

Fantastic tour with Don! He is so friendly and willing to share his vast knowledge about wine. This personal tour saw us visiting a wide variety of wineries that had lots of different things to offer. Then finished off a lovely day with a trip to the top of Te Mata peak where we were treated to Don’s own homemade wine. Will definitely be booking again with him next time I have visitors in town

If I could give more stars I would. Don was just amazing. If you love wine, you need to do this tour. I am someone who loves small, boutique Napa and Sonoma wineries. I do not do big corporate for background.Don was so incredibly knowledgeable about the wine growing and making process and was willing to take the time to explain how the Hawkes Bay wines are grown and different from others from NZ and around the world. He clearly loves the area and gave us so much personal and historical background. We did this tour a few days back, and reflecting about it is making me realize how it was one of the main highlights of our 2 week NZ trip. Please, do this experience if you can. You won’t regret it!!!

We were on the Viking Mars cruise ship. The length of the port call was shortened and the ship’s (overpriced) wine tour was fortunately cancelled. We reached out Don and arranged a private tour for my wife and I. What great good fortune! Don is extraordinarily knowledgeable about wines of the world and of course New Zealand, where he has a lifetime of experience growing grapes and making wine. Just as important, he is a hospitality professional as well! Engaging, personable, funny and interested in the people he meets and deals with. We have visited wine regions around the world, but never had a better time that we did with Don!

Whether you are new to wine, or have a lot of experience, you will love exploringHawke's Bay with Don Bird. He has so much knowledge of winemaking, and of the area. He is fun to talk to, he creates a special experience, and he can answer most any question you might have about winemaking or the Hawke's Bay region. We visited when the weather was incredibly abnormal, and Don found a way to adjust the itinerary and make the adventure wonderful. We have been to a lot of winemaking regions in the world, and we still learned a lot during our time with Don. I will not attempt to detail our full experience, but I am certain that you will not regret spending a day with Don...and sometimes, it's better to take the leap and just enjoy the day, as we did.
