Patumahoe Recreation Reserve
The entrance on 19 Patumahoe Road shows this as being the Patumahoe War Memorial Domain - this has been the formal name of the reserve since 1956. Patumahoe Domain and the North East fields (Clive Howe Road - shown on maps as Clive Howe Road Recreation Reserve) are collectively known as the Patumahoe Recreation Reserve. The reserves are both administered by Auckland Council. Originally the Domain was accessed only via John St by the Patumahoe Hall. The entrance on Patumahoe Road was added in 1958 when the Memorial gates were added. A toilet block sits by this entrance with a colourful mural adorning its walls. The Memorial entrance has two pink granite tablets for honouring 58 locals serving during WWII, and also a separate plaque honouring Private Richard Harris, killed in Afghanistan on 19 August 2012. With the addition of land, the Domain has grown from its original one acre to encompass a march larger area capable of housing sports grounds for rugby, bowling, tennis, croquet, and basketball.
