Great rest stop with free camping allowed. One of my favorite posted free camping spots in 3 months road trip on the south island. We parked right next to the beach with wave sounds to combat modest road noise. Toilets in good shape and rubbish bins on site.

Hidden spot for a beach view and beach access, new long drop toilet at the time of posting, facing south west, great sunset. Sleep with the sounds of waves, can’t really hear traffic outside. Occasional trains passing by.

I agree with everyone it's lovely. Lay your further on for larger buses if its full. Toilets are clean but take you rubbish with you

Katiki Beach North Reserve Rest Stop
Toilets that are clean and don't smell! The beach is lovely but readily accessed. A great spot to stop off. I'm not sure if it's safe to swim, the surf never seems up to much.
