Warkworth & Districts Museum

Outside is a very impressive big Kauri called The McKinney Kauri- 800 years old. Height to first limb 11.89m, Center girth 7.62. Another large one can be seen close by.There is a boardwalk trail through the Kauri forest that starts next to it. It is a beautiful, tranquil walk with Kauri trees, tree ferns and bird calls, made that much better by us being the only ones there.Admission to the museum is $7 for adults. It has an eclectic collection concerning forestry, mining, minerals, women’s accomplishments, some Maori artifacts and history, European settlers history, stories and artifacts, old cameras, etc.There is a video of local history that is interesting and worth taking the time to view.Upstairs there are displays of old shops and a school.Outside there is a 1900 outhouse, a tiny 1867 post office, Warkworth’s 1912 jail, two US military WWII era huts- all of which can be entered.

Great place to go with the kids to learn the history of Warkworth. The volunteers at the museum are very friendly and welcoming to the whole family. The Kauri walk is also just a 8-10 minute loop which is good fun. The 500 year old and 800 year old Kauri trees are a sight to behold!

Enjoyed this little museum so much. The exhibits are set out and displayed brilliantly. The information was excellent. Loved the balance of the museum which included everyday aspects of New Zealand history and culture, not just limited to certain things. Also the local past Kauri industry was covered and explained well. Very nostalgic looking at some of the olden day items.

I went here as part of a school visit and I have to saw what a local gem! The volunteers were so amazing and very knowledgeable. The walk we did was amazing. We've done it before as a family but with the added knowledge of the guide it was extra amazing. The museum was awesome. Lots of local history and photos and artifacts. I loved that you can buy plants at the museum too.

800 years old Kauri tree. The walkway in the woods is very interesting. Worth stopping by if you are passing Warkworth. Closer to the state Highway.

The best museum I have been in. So much to see and so well laid out and explained. You could spend 3 hours here. The also have nice walking trails through some of the most fascinating forest.

Had a good walk around the outside looking at all the old stuff , Didnt pop inside but enjoyed all the old huts outside and the bush walk around the Kauri trees

Fantastic little museum, lots of interesting facts about the early pioneers, plus a lovely woodland walk adjacent to it

Wonderful place, very interactive & interesting. Great for my kids 8&6. An excellent bush walk that is either 10min or 25min which is ideal for young ones. We just had a fabulous time here

Cute little local museum. Some interesting local exhibits and esp around early businesses and the impact of WW2. Sells lovely authentic marmalade and garden plants.
