On Sunday 21 March at approx 12.30 pm I called Vetent Cromwell and was transferred to the emergency female vet on duty in Alexandra. I told this vet that my 12.5 year old border collie dog had collapsed and that I believe that he is dying and that I would like for the vet to come to my home in Cromwell to assist the dog who was getting worse . I was however told that she is not doing the house call and that I should place my dog in the back of the car and should bring him to Alexandra. She also said that she would need to bring an assistant for the home visit and that she had none. I told her that my dog is in a dying state and that I do not want to add additional stress to the animal. I was also not in the right state to be driving a car, and there was no one else available to drive as my husband was in Auckland. I was lucky that my friend could come and sit with me and my dying Arnie. It took 2 hours for Arnie until he could die and I will never forget the pain he had to endure. I had to watch him gasping for air and I could do nothing. After Arnie had passed I again called the vet and asked what I should do now that the dog is dead. She told me that she had no place in the freezer and she was unsure whether Cromwell had space and that I should maybe just dig a hole and put him in there.I told her that I would just call Vetlife. There they had space  in the freezer in Alexandra and that is where Arnie was taken. I have since also organised the cremation for Arnie through Vetlife.I just would like to say that I have never ever received such bad service anywhere. There was no empathy or compassion from this vet .I have not stopped crying over the loss of my pet and I have the image of him dying forever  in my memory.I hope that no other person  is so unlucky to have this vet answering the emergency phone on a weekend or holiday.
