Maruia River
The falls are spectacular at any time, but after rain they are fierce and powerful. Formed after an earthquake up thrust from the 1929 Murchison Earthquake and subsequent erosion of the riverbed. Well worth stopping to explore. You can walk to the base of the falls via an easy track from the carpark. There are basic toilet facilities in the carpark.

Maruia Falls is a nice reserve and it's a reasonable sized waterfall, pretty big but also far off so not super impressive compared to other natural wonders of NZ like Huka Falls or Devil's Punchbowl. Still worth a stop and look for sure!
