Waihi Falls
Amazing! Very powerful, worth the drive out from Palmerston North on my weekend off. Last 20 minutes, road bit bumpy. Watch out for potholes, cows and sheep who get loose from fields. A lot of reviews mention steep stairs, but theyre hardly steep and theres only a few, took me 5 minutes to get to the bottom. Certainly not a 20 minute walk unless you have health issues/really unfit. It can be slippy though.

Waterfall wasn't as spectacular as normal due to no rain and being summer, freedom camping spot for self contained vechile only. Picnic tables, rubbish bins and toilets on site, take own toilet paper. Carpark, Was surprised to see people swimming in the dirty water, after seeing sign to only swim if clear.

Awesome waterfallAmazing to see when there is heavy rainfall, the power of water !!This is a must visit place in the area, I mean waterfalls are very calming and enjoyable to watch and hear their water cascading down. There is a BBQ area that’s under cover and there is a good toilet block also. I’m not sure if swimming is okay well it wasn’t the stormy day we were there. There are a lot of stairs if you want to go down the bottom of the waterfall but you can see it good enough at the top which is only 20 metres from the car park.Summer time would be nice too I would imagine.Take a packed lunch or portable BBQ to make the most of the time thereDefinitely a place to visit if you are in the area.

Beautiful place for a refreshing swim! The drive to the falls was worth it. The walk to the falls isnt too far from the parking spot. And there is a lookout that gives you a view of the gorgeous falls. There is a bathroom on-site.Would go there again!

Certainly worth the drive. The walk is short and steep, but well maintained steps.

Falls are very pretty. But some mongrel has stolen the Solar Panel or wrecked it so it's taken away?Nothing's sacred eh!. Also no sign saying where the toilets are.?

One of the best waterfalls I've seen in New Zealand although it was a rainy day. Worth the detour

Spectacular waterfall, well worth the journey, especially on a rainy day. The carpark is close to the falls. There are toilets adjacent. Make sure you pop in to the Pongaroa Hotel for lunch but check their meal times.

It would be nice to see more water. But it's was a nice walk. Many steps to decent so it's not wheelchair friendly.

Pretty waterfall but don't with your dogs, ad they are not allowed, despite the sites forgetting to mention that small fact. Site mentions have BBQ facilities - there isn't a BBQ, but there is a table under a shelter for a picnic. Swim spots are deep, so not advised for younger children. Over 100 steps on the track down to the bottom of the fallsTararua District Pamphlet says Waihi Falls is on Oporae Rd - ummm no!!. Go along Oporae Rd and then continue to travel along Waihi Vly Rd, until you see Waihi Falls Rd, with the Waihi Falls sign. Continue along the gravel rd, cross over a small wooden car bridge and follow to the end. It is about a 45min drive from Dannevirke.
