Generally okay food, yet the fries did taste a little rancid, I suppose the oil hadn't been changed for a bit too long. Reading the reviews I feel like the quality of the food and portion size can really vary from day to day. I don't get how it could be the best fish and chips people have had, without the taste of the bad oil it would have been pretty average..

Quite nice fish and chips. Batter not too thick chips crisp on the outside soft on the in. Not to keen on the meat patties, very thin. Sausages very tasty fish of the day was blue warehou well worth while. Nice area to have a wander round while you wait or seats and magazines inside if you prefer. Will be back.

This used to be our chippie of choice a few years ago. In fact it won a small competition we held in my office for the best chips in Nelson.Well, the chips are still pretty good, although a little too greasy for my taste. They were fresh and salted nicely although perhaps a little over cooked.I ordered 2 pieces of fish of the day (blue warehou) , and as you can see in the photos, they are a little smaller than you would get elsewhere.I did also order some bluff oysters and they were fresh and delicious and cooked beautifully.Even with these minor complaints, this is still one of the best fish and chips shops in town, and the locale is perfect on a nice sunny day. Grab a scoop and a fish and go sit on the wharf and watch the boats come and go! Worth it.

Least-greasy greasies I've had, but in a good way. Beautiful fillet battered and cooked to order along with fresh chips. Asked for minimal salt on the chips and got exactly what I ordered. Fish of the day (Southern king fish) was great. Lovely and fresh with perfect amount of batter. Will come again

Orders fish and chips. Fish of the day was$5 . It was a very small portion, in fact the smallest I've ever had from a chippy. The problem was though it wasn't good! The fish was edible but the batter was rhin, hadn't been crisped up and lacked appeal. Chips were tasty but greasy and by the end I was struggling to finish as had that greasy feeling in my mouth that tells you to stop. No paywave or credit cards accepted! The redeeming feature is you can sit on the waterfront and relax with a beautiful view.

It’s my local but the portions are getting so small that I’ll be going elsewhere.Got two pieces of fish from Havelock a few days later, at least 3x the size and the same price.

Trusty chip shop. Open good hours and friendly owner. The portions seem to have decreased for chips. But the food is still very tasty and the oil is well drained.

Best dish and chips I’ve ever had. Only complaint is the portions are pretty small. I asked if a full scoop was enough chips for 2 people and they said yes, it was not. But the gurnard was INCREDIBLE.
