Auckland Council Henderson Animal Shelter

The customer service here is exceptional. We have been in a couple of times over the last couple of weeks to view dogs for adoption, The staff are super friendly, knowledgeable and clearly care about making sure that the dogs get paired with the right people. Very impressed.

[Note: this happened a couple of months ago, I am posting this review on behalf of the affected party for their protection/safety]Initially treated okay, but then overheard an offhand comment from the staff when they thought they were out of earshot, assuming myself and my flatmate were queer, after that suddenly all the dogs we had asked about had all been adopted out or had an excuse for not being taken and they reduced our options to a dog we suspected had an illness and wasn't ready for adoption just yet.We didn't get time to confirm this however, as when we got home, the one dog they had let us adopt was not okay with cats (that we had double-triple checked they would be okay with cats and was reassured by the shelter they were okay), the dog wanted to eat/kill our cat but we had thankfully kept the two physically apart, the only reason the dog didn't attempt to do so.Unfortunately we had to return the dog as they were not okay with cats even after being promised that the shelter had checked.Don't go to this shelter: They will hate crime you and if you're unlucky, kill your pets too out of hate. :'(

Had a fantastic experience with them 3 years ago. Saw a advert of a dog that I thought would be a good mate for my other rescue dog. The staff bent over backwards to help me and to test" whether the two doggies will be a match. Acted quickly to get and inspector to look at my home and give the green light to adopt. Thanks everyone."

The employees I dealt with on both occasions were very informative & understanding. The impound fees are costly not to mention the fine you will receive a week after the impound date.

What a shitie process you have now for adoption. You can't even walk in now and get a touch or a feel of the dogs anymore! You have to go through the internet and select one that way, then an interview. So not the way, so long and outstretched. Now I don't even feel like adopting a rescue dog, when they make it so hard. Poor dogs!

They made an effort to get a lost dog back to her owner buy checking the lost pets website so thats good just had to pay 210$ for registration and impoundment fees so an expensive experience not so good but I'm just glad I got my pet back

I should have done this years ago when one of them called me, accusing my dog of attacking another dog. The man was rude and condescending. I can understand he was investigating but don't make accusation when he had no proof. My dog was clearly inside the house and we were not home. Clearly our dog couldn't unlock and open the door. It was a roaming dog that happened to go into our driveway, and a witness has informed him that there was another dog inside the house.

One luv. had a shady experience here with information. they sent 3 report letters explaining completely different events . RIP to my boy.. People PLEASE DONT BRING ANIMALS HERE ..unless they are being put down.. Thanks

We bought an injured pigeon here with the hope that these people would try and help the pigeon. We found the pigeon at night time and the next day he had a lot more strength and was walking around. Despite his improved recovery these people decided to euthanize him as this is apparently 'humane' Do not trust these people they will only protect the animals if it belongs to the owner as they get a bit of money from this, otherwise they do not care about stray animals at all. This is second time we have experienced this with these people( we bought injured duck prior to this which they also killed...), you have been warned..

Awesome team, helpfully and considerate.
