Te Henga Walkway
An amazing cliff top hiking track along the beautiful black sandy beaches in west to the Waitakere Ranges. A must do to see the real beauty of coastal belt in the North Island.

Awesome way to spend your holiday in nature. Best time to go is before your lunch meal. Which you can carry your pack lunch to O’Neil Bay as this place is kind of a private place to swim.Just a few meters from where you started the trail (uphill part) it has a lookout to Bethels Beach on the right and Sand Dunes at the left.I followed this track for 45mins (incl. pausing to take photos of the view + enjoying the fresh air).Enjoy the beach at O’Neil Bay. There is a safe zone for kids to swim to avoid big waves during high tide.

Lots of big fish here. I would say it’s a bit scary to climb on the rocks and it’s very dangerous. Just be very careful and don’t drown urself. We had a 58-cm snapper and a gurnard, both are super tasty. Great place for hiking and fishing, you should try!

One of the best hiking in Auckland region. Not far from the CBD, 45 mins drive, and the hiking route is flexible either start from Bethells beach side or Constable Rd. 8hrs in total, Farm view and sea view , not boring. Adventure a little bit on the constable rd side. The road will be more sticky after raining. Choose a good day to go!

Went in August during winter, not as bad as I have expected. Very important to bring PROPER hiking shoes as there are parts along the way where you need a good grip to the ground. Weather proof jacket recommended. 60k steps, 6-7hr return. Worth it!

A very beautiful and accessible walkway. Despite the unclear instructions, this trail is easy to walk and the beach sand is so soft to walk on. Views are gorgeous when you explore between beaches. Remember to wear slippers when you are there otherwise you need to take off your shoes to get across. I believe the scene will be better and different when it's sunny.

What an amazing walk! Would highly recommend! Be sure to have adequate time for the return journey or have some friends pick you up on the other side. There were some areas that were washed out so be extra careful, not sure of the state it's in now after the storms. Make sure to check the DOC website to see if the track is open.

The day was great and perfect for a walk outside. Take a look at that ski. The track is not for the fainted heart but the views definitely pay off. Due to some maintenance in one bridge in the area, we had to start from the end of the track and come back thru the same section, which was still great but not ideal.

Quite a tough walk, with a very steep finish to get to the Muriwai car park. Remember to take plenty of water and snacks! Very nice view of the rugged west coast.

Great views, Gorgeous walk! The Te Henga Walkway, between Bethells and Muriwai, is part of the Hillary Trail, which connects a number of existing tracks in the Waitakere Ranges. It is a great option if you’re looking for some solitude and fresh ocean air.The track heads in the direction of the ocean, ascending cliff tops at times. Parts are narrow and steep so it’s best to walk the track in dry weather. There are boardwalks and bridges in over wet/muddy areas.
