AS may not be the prettiest of Hutt stations but it provides an essential service for the locals especially as Ava does not have direct bus service. The Hutt Valley Line trundles behind Bob Scott Retirement Village, and over the Hutt River between Ava and Woburn stations and this is where the views improve. (The trains used to stop just before the bridge [ from the Ava direction ] for embarking or disembarking passengers even though there were no official stops between the 2 stations.)

08/22 two passenger shelters now in place. Better signs for any bus replacement service, just under/by the road bridge.Sadly the bus ( replacement service ) shelter has been delayed due to some difficulties with pipes/cables (which?) under the surface.09/21 Two shelters now in place.September 23rd. It's open. Couple of minor things to be tended to but the overbridge is open again. However, one same old station issue still remains. We found a lost would be train traveller. He couldn't find the rail replacement bus stop.Him, after we showed him where to go: 'I must have missed the signs '.Us: 'You didn't. There aren't any. 'September 22nd. Told it will be open on Monday the 24th of September. No cover. Simply as it was.August 25th 2018. Work in progress. Fingers crossed.August 22nd 2018. No finish to the overbridge in sight. GWRC being very quiet. POOR.May 2018 new shelter finished and decently so.Access to the station still POOR.Currently, July 2017, access is awful. Access is only by steep stairs. Pedestrian ramp at the other end was removed after earthquake damage in 2016 and replacement work won't start until earliest 08/17.The only station access on the southern side is nearly invisible as there are no signs in place. Access on the southern side, as you face the station, is to your far right. The shelter in inclement weather is meagre and poor.If you have ANY mobility issues the station is to be avoided at the moment.Update: 25/09/2017 no sign of work starting on the repairs. Contact Barry Fryer at GWRC if you have questions.January 2018. Work has started and likely to finish by end of March. A lot of work being done offsite, think prefabrication, and no obvious. Also, no shelter, at all, currently as the shelter is being rebuilt.

Access only from the Eastern end via steep stairs as Regional Council has removed the easier access Western end ramps, otherwise has a large platform with basic shelter.
