Bay of Islands Holiday Park

They refused to refund our second night of camping despite us being one of the only guests there and leaving by 11 the next morning. I understand they have a 24 hr cancellation policy, but we had only booked the night before and obviously weren’t preventing anyone else from camping in our stead. If I were to go back and do it over again, I would have only paid for the first night and waited until the next day when I knew for sure we would be staying again before paying for the second. Thats my fault, but I wasn’t anticipating us needing to leave early or them holding onto our money. I was told they had experienced a ton of cancellations recently due to the rainy weather in the Northland, which is unfortunate and I’m sure they’ve lost a lot of revenue because of that, but that’s not an excuse to treat us unfairly instead.

Save your pennies folks. The campsite got some good reviews online, however the most recent ones (which we hadn't seen before we went) aren't as positive. The pitch we were originally given for our tent had 2 massive tree stumps and roots taking up half of it, then half grass and half gravel for the rest. Not something you want to pitch your tent on. We spoke to reception and she was cool with us moving to the pitch behind it, that way we could fit our car and tent on the one pitch. We ventured into the toilets within an hour of pitching up and found them less than desirable. Both mens and woman's had dirty floors and toilets looked to be needing a good clean. Put it down to the cleaner not having been for the day yet... We stayed 4 days, and it never got any better! I mentioned it to the cleaner dude when he was in the men's, and said the floors just keep getting dirty, however I didn't see him once try to do anything about them. Cockroaches in the washing room, so we left without doing any laundry. Kitchen was however well equipped! Only downside were that the taps at all but one sink had stupid press to get water taps, which is rubbish if you are trying to clean dishes or fill a big water bottle. If you are passing through, stay a night, however don't do as we did and setup for a few days.

basic but spacious and clean. Very friendly staff. Situated a 10 minute drive from Paihia (free parking available in city centre car park). Unlimited WiFi available for free. Cabins get hot in the summer and since there are no mosquito nets we felt reluctant to open the window. Fan is provided for some circulation.

This campsite was lovely, it has a lot of potential. The only thing to complain about would be the cleanliness of the toilets, the women's didn't have many mirrors. The site itself is beautiful. The staff was very friendly. The BBQ area was extremely nice. Noise wasn't bad at all and has a lot of wildlife around.

It wasn't great and there was no hot water for a shower, but it was reasonably priced when compared to any other option we looked at over the Christmas New Year period. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone though. It's tired and needs a lot of TLC. Look at other options first.

We stayed there over Easter Weekend and really enjoyed it. Rooms and Bathrooms were clean and tidy. Service from the ladies in the office was amazing. They had a lot of activities planned for the kids which my kids loved. We are already planning our next holiday there, which will hopefully be soon. Stayed here over the summer in 2022. Bathrooms could have used a little more love, however the rest of the park made up for it. Had a camp spot near the river. Stayed a single woman and felt safe the entire time. Plenty of shade.

Just another holiday park for camping. The staff were very accommodating. Ticks all the basic boxes. The place needs a bot of work to set them apart.
