Another hidden gem. Perfect for walking dogs. Easy access, easy walk. Boardwalk over swampland, great natural historic Wairarapa Plains walk. Very impressed.

Carter Scenic Reserve is a DOC managed 5th generation scrubby Bush and one of the few remaining remnants of patchwork landscape once typical of the Wairarapa - grass, wetland, shrubland, and forest. Its key fame is a few Kahikatea tree's not logged out in the early 1890s to 1920 period. The park is well worth visiting with a good car park and easy walking track. Great for kids

Lovely place for a brief walk. Interesting place to take pics of trees. There are quite a few wasps around during autumn but they’re no problem.

Lovely. There is a long drop 120 meters from carpark. Bring your own loo paper. The boardwalk in the swap area is great. The walk to the river is muddy. The trail back round the loop through Bush is flat but there was a fallen tree blocking path.Driveway off main road is gravel.

Natural, unspoiled native reserve. Boardwalk needs some upkeep to prevent grasses from becoming a tripping hazard, but otherwise a restful spot to visit.

Interesting board walk. There is a bit more than just 30 min loop. Walk a bit further to access river.

Short 20 minute walk around the wetlands. There's a bench halfway round to stop and rest and take in the nature. The boardwalk over the wetlands was a bit overgrown with grasses so needed some attention. The information signe at the entrance was blank which was disappointing. It would have been nice to have some picnic tables at the start of the walk.Google maps took us to the wrong place to start the walk.

An easy 20 min loop walk through old forest, new regeneration, and swamp areas.Parts of the track can be a little muddy but the damp areas are all boardwalked. We saw some native parrots and a little fantail followed us for part of our walk.
