Jetty Viewpoint

A great, peaceful cafe with nice fresh air, and a short kid friendly trek to the Jetty Viewpoint with amazing views at the right time.Please note: in the mid afternoon, the Jetty Viewpoint is too bright and ripply to have any of the iconic reflection that it is known for. I had to come back later in the day right before sunset to get the reflection I was going for. (Pics included of sunset vs. 12pm noon)Also, when I did come back for sunset, be warned that there were dozens of tourists that were bussed (maybe 20 or 30, but me included I'll admit) but it can ruin the vibe depending on the chances of getting a tour bus. Please keep it peaceful, as the sunset itself is very beautiful and lots of locals like to go there for peace and quiet as well.

Unfortunately, due to repairs to a bridge, I couldn't complete the loop walk today, but the walk I did was like walking through fairy grottos, with all the mosses along the way. The view of the lake from one viewing point was spectacular, for the reflections on the water

Nice views, nice walk. Highly recommend. There was a few groups already there for sunrise. Definitely do the walk around the lake as there are a number of good viewpoints right around. The reflection point really depends on the weather as it needs to be super calm.

Beautiful walk around lake Matheson with some of the best views in New Zealand on a clear day. Make sure to walk the entire loop circuit as there are many other great spots around the lake.

Amazing morning lucky with the weather nice 20 minute walk to the jetty on Matheson Lake. Feeling blessed to have such a picturesque day.

Lively place to visit at Franz Joseph. We walked around the lake early morning to get the reflection of the lake and mountains. These photos are taken from the jetty.

I hope this helps others, I felt I couldn’t find this information else where so please upvote this to help others -You’ve got about a 35% chance of seeing the awesome reflection in all its glory because of the rainfall in this area. When the weather is good the place is super crowded.Regardless - do the walk!! It’s a beautiful and easy walk, accessible until the jetty view point. The walk is through a forest that also keeps you safe from the rain, so after about 400m you are rain free, super nice and worth it!

Such incredible views. Even before the track starts you get a stunning backdrop of all the snow-capped mountains. The trail is pretty flat and easy to traverse, small inclines along the way and shaded amongst the forest.The views from the jetty are spectacular. On a sunny, clear day when the water movement is minimal, it reflects perfect mirrored images of the mountains, and has beautiful photo opportunities. Even during poor weather conditions I can imagine this lake still having incredible lookout points.Worth a visit if you get the chance. Visit the cafe too!

Go on a clear day, less wind, and camp at the jetty view point. It is nearer to the mountains compared to the rest of the view points so the reflections will look better. This is my best nature reflection picture taken thus far.
