Okarito Kayaks

I had the absolute please of being taken out in a kayak by Megan last Monday, and it's one of the best experiences I have had on my travels in Aotearoa!Megan has two things in abundance; facts and dad jokes. Her joyously infectious personality, Christmas cracker jokes, and truly remarkable depth of knowledge of the area and wildlife made it an incredibly special kayak trip across the lagoon. The huge conservation efforts going on in the area, particularly by the community (shout-out to the Horse Busters), gives a whole new respect visiting Okarito. Getting up close to a white heron is something I will never forget.I hope more than anything to find myself there again one day.

We had the best day here. We went on a 3 hour guided kayak tour of the lagoon with the lovely Georgia and honestly, it was one of the highlights of our trip.It was a really relaxing and enjoyable paddle, and very professional. Life jackets and insect repellant were provided but nothing was biting. We got to see some wild birds, a baby eel and fish breaking the surface of the water.There was a cup of tea at the end which was very welcome.Can't recommend it highly enough.

Best view after travelling 6 weeks in New Zealand. 100% connection with nature. We did it with 2 Kids. 5 ans 10 y old. It went very well. Very friendly staff.

Amazing experience—the lagoon is breathtaking and the birdlife wonderful!! The owners are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. They are also obviously sustainability-minded, which is always refreshing to experience. We left feeling uplifted in many ways :) (P.S. try the coffee ice cream!!)

We had a brilliant experience with Gem and Baz and their team, we'd initially booked a half day but ended up only being able to do three hours due to conditions and safety concerns, and it was wonderful nonetheless. Great communication, strong emphasis on safety, and all round lovely people. This was a real highlight of our trip, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!

Kayaking on Okarito Lagoon was a dream come true and getting close to the beautiful kotuku was a real bonus. Thanks so much to the very knowledgeable team at Okarito Kayaks for giving me a head start on a quiet tidal creek of the lagoon and for the helpful marker poles and maps to show the way. Even in winter a paddle at Okarito is a very special experience and the coffee is great too!

Very friendly service, thank you. Three hours kayak hire was plenty of time to have a good look around. Going early at low tide meant we saw abundant bird life. Complimentary coffee at the end was a lovely touch. Highly recommended.

Loved our experience with the team at Otakiro! It's in the details and this stellar team knocks it out of the park!Very clear instructions on the estuary, amazing service offering to pick us up along the route if we got too tired, complementary tea and coffee on our return, lifejackets that are actually designed for women, complementary postcards not to mention the incredible birdlife and what to look out for!
