Quite possibly the best custard/fruit danish I've ever had. The custard wasn't overly sweet like most, and the fruit tasted fresh. It was loaded with fruit to. Up there with the likes of Daily Bread in Auckland. Unfortunately the coffee was average.

Great place for a quick bite to eat, and definitely will revisit when passing again! Had their roasted chicken + avocado bun and apple + walnut pastry - both incredibly delicious. Loved the bun and the relish that was on the bun.Can't wait to try more of their pastries but also their pies!

Hands down best pies in NZ. On trips to Tauranga from Auckland I find myself detouring via Tīrau just so I can get one their pies. Exceptional. Keep up the great craft!

We'd been craving a classic Kiwi pie for our entire roadtrip but hadn't found one that hit the spot until The Baker! Get in early, we arrived at 1pm on a Saturday and snapped up the last pies (there was a queue so you know it's good).I went for the potato top pie. The pastry was flaky, the fillings had identifiable ingredients and there was none of that gross jellified gravy you see in most bakery and gas station pies.The custard slice was good, but a little disappointing in comparison because it used that kinda flavourless, slightly rubbery custard mix. The pastry and passionfruit icing were yum though!
