Sensei Karl is passionate about teaching karate and spreading the art of Karate Do to all that are willing to learn. I’d rate this dojo 10/10.

I lived 40 mins driving distance from the dojo but it is not a matter of the distance but what you can learn from the Sensei.Worth it.

After taking a 20 year hiatus from JKA training at a different dojo after the covid pandemic i decided that life is too short not to chase my dreams and do what i am passionate about and decided to restart training under sensei karl. Sensei karl and senpai graham was very welcoming and showed patience and understanding of my circumstances as i relearned everything all over again and continues to do so. Sensei karl is very knowledgeable and passionate about JKA and his style of teaching shows this. He explains everything in great detail which personally helps me understand the technicalities behind every move which encourages me to better my techniques at every training . Its obvious that Sensei Karl wants his students to do their best and be the best they can be on their own personal JKA Journeys and if you have the passion, determination and willingness to be taught he has the time and patience to teach you. It has been a privledge and honor to train under Sensei Karl on my personal JKA journey.Oss.

JKA is a great association too be part of, the training is second to none with great attention to detail, if you want to learn traditional Japanese karate I would recommend JKA 100%.

Great dojo - took my kids 8 years ago after finding the organisation they'd been recruited to seemed out to make money, and then took it up myself (in my late 40s) and while they've moved on I'm still loving it. Very sound consistent and technical teaching and deep insights. Top teachers from Japan visiting regularly. None of the 100's of pushups conditioning approach which suits me as I can do those myself if I want to (I don't). Instead I get to continually improve myself while enjoying staying fit and flexible. Highly recommend the teacher and dojo along with the partner ones in JKA NZ.

I've been training under Karl-sensei for over 2 years now and it's been a fantastic journey. There is a great focus on the minor details and building a strong foundation. Being exposed to that level of teaching, as well as attending seminars from JKA HQ intructors and participating in competitions has really helped me improve my Karate.10/10 would recommend this for anyone looking to learn karate the proper way.
