Kaikoura Sushi
Small little shop run by a Korean family, not Japanese.Noodles were essentially instant noodles (ramen was from the Nongshim Shin Ramyun instant noodles pack - I recognised the taste instantly), but it had a generous serving of veggies and crabmeat and prawns.Rice in the California roll was tough and dry, and the shop ran out of avocadoes but the price of the roll was still $13.Kinda pricey. But owners were very nice

I have been to Kaikoura Sushi on several occasions this year, and really enjoy their vegetarian sush with avocado and/or golden tofu. The rice is perfectly textured, and the sushi is always fresh and flavorful.Recently, I realised that they sell authentic, hot southeast Asian dishes: ramen, udon and donburi bowls. I tried the ramen and udon - very umami, and the seafood udon especially tasted like a restaurant quality dish- balanced, with a flavor of homemade seafood stock. Yum!! I recommend you call in your order 20 minutes ahead of time, as hot food is cooked-to-order!Their seaweed salad and inari are fantastic also!!!

Warm meals are great, if you’re craving noodles, go for Yaki Udon! It is a little bit pricey but it’s in Kaikoura with limited food choices, I think it’s still acceptable.Owner is Korean, and if you go early, the sushi is very fresh but you gotta pay for wasabi. Will visit again if I’m ever going there!

Love how fresh the salmon is. The sushi rice is cooked just right. This sushi place is run by Japanese, at least the young lady and senior lady were both Japanese. We wanted the ramen but the wait was an hour so we just did sushi. Very popular joint with lotsa locals and tourists.

We both had the udon noodle soup and were happy with our choice since it all seemed to be freshly cooked and the portion size was satisfying - good price for $16. Could’ve had more vegetables in there and served with actual cutlery, since our wooden spoon was too flat to properly eat soup with it. The man was very polite.

Always loved this place, very polite and helpful, have always catered to our needs, a bit pricey compared to other sushi shops I’ve been to, but I’ve always loved their food and miso
