Southern Woods Nursery

Southern Woods has become my preferred supplier for at least 101 reasons but here are the top few things that put them above other nurseries I have tried throughout NZ:If there's something not in stock or you're after something not usually commercially available, Southern Woods will find it for you and not charge the earth as a special consignment. I found this particularly useful for rare natives and large quantities, which I found not a single nursery in Canterbury as capable of delivering on. It also saves me hours of frustration browsing websites from around the country and paying hundreds of extra dollars in courier fees, when Southern Woods can combine shipping and utilize corporate rates and pass these savings on to me (which they actually do, as I carefully calculated and compared prices before settling on Southern Woods as a preferred supplier).In landscape design and installation, this has given me the ability to design to the client's brief with the confidence that the final installation is faithful to intent and not compromised by species substitution due to unavailability or plant failure due to inferior stock. This has marked a notable turnaround in my professional work and 100% confidence in standing by the Southern Woods product.They are also completely transparent with seed source and biosecurity information and documentation if required. This is particularly useful in demands for verifiable eco-sourced stock when required and documented assurance in a recent public-space installation with a lot of existing Myrtle species.What I really love about Southern Woods though is that I feel like part of the family when dealing with them, despite the large-scale operation they have become. I find the entire staff friendly, engaged and well informed. I think they all should be very proud as an outstanding example of how some of the other operators around the country could pull their socks up (with the exception of Greenmachine.co.nz which has also been of comparable excellence in supplying top-quality native species).I recommend Southern Woods unreservedly for the service, selection and quality -- not only for the home gardener, but from my particular experience, as a valuable partner and asset for landscape design and installation professionals.Pictured: Robert Watson design in Merivale that I planted out with Southern Woods natives (1 year after installation)

This is my favorite garden centre. Fantastic service and really helpful advice. I'm very happy with my braeburn tree. Love the layout of the place. Great website too.

Great range of fruit and nut trees. They also stock a very good range of native plants too. Plant centre is very nicely laid out and I always end up buying more than I intend to!

The plants displayed at the nursery were in beautiful condition for this time of year.The displays were beautifully presented and easy to walk around.The online order and communications were clear and helpful.The staff were friendly and helpful on pickup.We will highly recommend Southern Woods Nursery after our first visit here.

Great nursery. Helpful staff. Good range especially NZ natives. Reasonable prices. Excellent Japanese secateurs should you be sick of cheap ones that blunten quickly or get stuck shut as you use them. Bought one and wife then got her own smaller one. 3 sizes for all hands.

Wish we'd found this earlier - gorgeous healthy trees and plants, great prices, and it's a lovely place to wander round - all kinds of interesting things to admire. Service was fantastic, staff brought the plants out to our trailer and loaded them up for us, and everyone was super friendly and helpful both on the phone and in person.
