Large area old shade trees, 2 clean long drop toilets, a quiet and peaceful setting. We have spent 3 nights Freedom camping here, along with other traveller's. A shared walking, cycling, horse trekking track to the top of the local high point.

Excellent free camp! Loads of space, keep following the road once you drive in as there are many spots including a big field. 2 basic DOC style long drop toilets located in the field. Nice and peaceful. A few other campers there. In heavy rain it may flood, so would go in dry weather. No other facilities, so better to have everything you need with you. Wakefield nearby is a cute historical town with some nice parks and murals.

The Waiiti Domain is just off the road, and freedom camping is available all year round ( maybe move if there’s heavy rain). The place is popular with horse riders. Some 350 meters through to the back is the Wai-iti Reserve. During summer months the Reserve is open for freedom camping. There are rubbish bins, toilets and potable water. The night SkyView here are amazing as there is very little extraneous light, a great place to identify the major constellations in particular. This place is also a connection point to the cycleway. One can cycle to Wakefield 6km away, or to the Spooners tunnel and on to Tapawera from here.

Good place to park up and catch up on some rest if you've been driving long distances but also has a bush walk track and another track for horses. Not the most stunning of places but it is a nice open area with two seperate plateaus in which you can pick your most desired spot to relax.
