Franz Josef Glacier Guides

It was a fun experience with this guide service! I tried a glacier hike with them. They have quite a well planned arrangements for the glacier hike. From gears to information and precautions!I recommend pre-booking the tour with them, keeping in mind the weather. The helicopter pilots and the hike guides were quite experienced as well!

Highly recommend their hike tour, totally worth! Not too tired. Way better than only sitting in the helicopter

Fantastic experience with Sam. He clearly provided the safety instructions and demonstrated the use of gears. He also helped everyone to make sure we were safe before moving on. We understand it's a high risk activity so with all the safe feelings, we could enjoy the journey.

Had the hike with Gareth who was great! Overall a pleasant experience though the hike had to end early due to weather.Did the same in 2009 but at that time we could start by bus (now only helicopter option). Back then there were less gears, only the boots, socks, crampons, pants. Now there are jacket (all pockets not usable which is really inconvenient), pole, helmet, carabiners etc.Glad that safety is well taken care, but maybe the jackets and pants can be washed (pretty dirty).I still like my 2009 experience more as the weather was better, tour was full (not shortened), was able to see keas, and able to wear my own jackets with pockets.This time the tour was short. Things brought along had no chance to be used and eaten.Eager to know since which year there is only helicopter option. Feel so glad i visited nz early.Need to book early (probably months ahead) otherwise hard to get a space.

This experience was unreal. Especially coming from a Rain Forest. We really lucked out with weather. Our tour guide was great, and we will never forget the day! I have a torn ACL so I wore a brace just to be safe, but the hike was not very strenuous.

WOW what an amazing experience. Cale was our guide and he was just as energetic and excited as us. We did the helicopter flight and glacier hiking tour. Such a special experience hiking in the glacier. We felt very safe with all the gear and poles/ropes put in place throughout the hiking route. The helicopter was fantastic, it brings you to/from glacier, not an actual glacier tour with the helicopter. We had some issues with booking (through the third party Viator) and this company was so incredibly helpful with getting us on tour. Lesson learned book directly.

DEFINITELY WILL NOT DISAPPOINT!Must go!!! Went with my parents and got grouped into a smaller group of 11 people with 1-2 guides. The guides were extremely accommodating, we had 4 members in the group of 11 that were above 60 years old and could not do tedious hiking - so they carved a seperate path for them while the younger ones took on the more challenging route. View was amazing and we were blessed with clear skies, and were even visited by Keas!!!! The guides also taught us basic safety protocols on how to walk different part of the trails. The helicopter ride was amazing as well.HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

We had three adventure filled weeks in NZ and this was by far the highlight. We had Jimmy as our guide (happy birthday again mate!) and Simon as our pilot, both were fantastic. The glacier was breathtaking! The speed of the trek was super manageable for all fitness levels and even if slow at times, that was perfect for taking it all in and grabbing a few photos. The trip into the 'event horizon' cavern was awesome and we feel pretty stoked to have had that opportunity, we encountered tour guides all over FJ who were talking about the 'amazing new cavern' and how they wish they could experience it.Very sad to think that this is an experience that will soon be gone for good, the hike gives you some perspective and and emotional attachment that really makes you more aware of your carbon footprint.

We booked this long before we arrived in New Zealand as we wanted to do something on a special day. From the moment we arrived until the moment it finished, we found the whole experience amazing. The staff that worked there were brilliant and the experience of flying up to the Glacier, was one that will never be forgotten. The hike itself was fun and informative but maybe not as long as I would have liked as you are part of a group and can only go so far in the time. The guide we had was called Kyarn and he very knowledgeable and made sure everyone was kept safe. I would highly recommend this trip.
