Information centre is very helpful and friendly. There is a viewing platform to the left of the visitor centre that has some amazing views of the mountain. There’s a sample of the hut accomodation and a model of the mountain and lots of helpful information.Toilets in car parkThere’s a registration box at the centre if your having a long overnight trek.

A regular visitors center that can provide you with good advice for your hike. There are two relatively short walks you can do. Dawson Falls or Wilkes Pools. We did the pools as this was recommended by the Ranger as a safer walk for a 3 year old.The walk was beautiful. I've never seen forest like it before. Truely a Goblin Forest as it is named. The climb was easy and the path is superbly maintained.

Wow!!After a 50 minute drive from New Plymouth we were greeted by a magnificent tree and fern lined mountain road. The road up to the visitor center is very narrow, so please keep your speed down and keep left!!.We had two very close calls with on coming vehicles on the wrong side of the road.Once we reached the visitor center we were greeted by very helpful and friendly staff, who recommended what walks we should do, that would be suitable for a four year old.The staff were very helpful and even took the time to show us on the map where our walk would take us.We walked through the Goblin forest to the lava pools. The walk up is along a easygoing walk though some beautiful native bush.At the lava pools is a natural rock slide- if you are brave enough to get into the eight degree water. We followed the loop track back down to the visitor center. This track is a bit more of a challenge, but the four year old made it down on his own no troubles. The track is more of a bush track with rocks and natural obstacles to navigate. Some nice waterfalls and water features along the way.Had a great time and will hopefully return in the future.

The mountain was keeping a wooly hat on today while I was there. Sunday 25th June. However the falls were nice to see.Relatively easy to get to. Caution needed on the road in due to it being narrow and some diving their cars like they were stolen.Falls are a relatively easy walk to the viewpoint of a minute or two from the road. Then a few stairs down to the base of the falls.Good viewings to be had.A longer walk can be had from the visitors centre also. The visitors centre is simple and basic. The mountain wad trying to show its top but just wouldn't. Still a good day.

Quiet visitor center with a small parking lot and a doc information site. 10 minute walk to the Dawson falls, 20 minutes or less to the wilkies pools.

Well worth the visit. Stunning day out, clouds covered the mountain, so unfortunately didn't get the full impact off the grandness of this spectacular site.

We did two of the smaller walks on Mount Taranaki from the Dawsons Falls Visitor Centre. DAWSONS Falls was a short loop but the falls were worth seeing. Wilkies Pools Loop track was really enjoyable. They say you can take prams and motorised wheelchairs up, but you will be coming back the way you came, not the loop. The second part of the loop had flooding so if you plane to do that side make sure you have sturdy shoes. There is no charge.

A lovely drive up the very narrow road to the DOC information Center. Lots a walking track. Also a short walk to Dawson Falls, unfortunately the track was very slippery and muddy, a bit of maintenance needed.

Good place for start trecking in Egmont national park. Also, good to know the natural environment through the display. What impress me is very narrow road to this visitor center surrounded by deep forests. That makes me feel like going adventure!
