Maitai Caves Walk Carpark
Good walk to the caves, mostly flat, easy for kids. You'll want a headlamp for the caves to free up your hands. Slippery and muddy in there, take care and use the ropes. Couple of small river crossings to get there and lots of ferns, beech trees.

1.5hr if you walk fast, took us 2 hours with the kids and some parts were pretty tricky for them but doable. Make sure you come prepared it’s a decent uphill hike

Maitai Caves Walk Carpark
Access Maitai Dam from here. The dam itself is not much, but the drive out from Nelson on the Maitai Valley Road is lovely
