Nice hotel room. Buffet dinner and food including room service is unacceptably overpriced. Great location. staff were nice. King bed was made up of two singles and was uncomfortable. $33 dollars for breakfast. Very average hotel for the price. Fine for a night but I would recommend you don’t eat in.

So call 4 Star Hotel, but physically only 2 Star! Never provide free bottle water like other 4 Star hotel. No hotel slipper provided. Also bring your own comb! Room cleaning never clean well for those who stay for many days. Worst is breakfast is always the same everyday! No variety at all! Eat until Sick of it ! Hope the hotel management can cater for those who stay for many days. Not recommended for those who stay many days.

Excellent location, clean and spacious room. Helpful front desk and staffs. We enjoyed using the gym in the evening too as shops close rather early in winter. Had an enjoyable 2-night stay.

HUGE room. I wish we would have known about the lift in the back to save us from hiking up the hill every day! Great location. We walked everywhere. Didn’t need a car while we were in town, nor an Uber. Located near some great restaurants.

Awesome place to stay if you want to be close to the action in town. The only complaint I would have is signage for which lift to use when checked out. Quiet and comfortable and clean.

I was there for business, from Australia for 4 nights and stayed in one of the refurbished rooms. Room was well sized and the bed was comfortable, but I was alone, so I would imagine that the two- single mattresses connected via a fitted sheet would be less comfortable for couples. I don't think it qualifies as a 4-star as it doesn't have a safe. I like to lock up my passport when on international travel. Further, there were no drawers for socks and jocks. I had to stack the in the top of the closet, where usually put other things. Both of these are curious omissions considering the room was refurbished in the past year or two. On the service side, I did ask for ice delivery twice during my stay, and it was promptly delivered and free. The young lady in the coffee shop in the lobby was a delight. My coffee order is what some would consider picky" and she'd never heard of it

Title: Mixed Experience at the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor in WellingtonRating: 3.5/5 starsI recently stayed at the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor in Wellington and wanted to share my thoughts on the overall experience. While there were certainly positives to highlight, there were also some notable drawbacks that cannot be overlooked. Here's a comprehensive review that covers both the positives and negatives.Let's start with the positives. One of the standout features of this hotel was its exceptional and friendly staff. From the moment we checked in until we checked out, the hotel staff was always eager to assist us and made us feel welcome. Their dedication and helpfulness added a personal touch to our stay.Additionally, the hotel's location is undoubtedly a major advantage. Situated in a prime area of Wellington, it provides convenient access to various attractions, shopping centers, and entertainment venues. Whether you're a tourist or a business traveler, you'll appreciate the hotel's proximity to key destinations. The dining experience was another highlight. The food served at the hotel's restaurant was of good quality, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals there. The menu offered a decent variety, catering to different preferences, and the service was prompt and attentive.Furthermore, our 17th-floor room was impressively clean. Housekeeping maintained high standards, and we appreciated returning to a well-maintained and spotless room after a day of exploring the city. The cleanliness added a sense of comfort and relaxation to our stay. However, it's important to address the negatives as well. The most glaring issue was the evident need for a full refurbishment throughout the hotel. The dated decor and worn-out appearance were noticeable in several areas. The windows in the restaurant were broken, which not only affected the aesthetics but also created discomfort due to noise and temperature fluctuations. While I still believe the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor has its merits, these negatives cannot be ignored. The hotel management should seriously consider investing in a comprehensive refurbishment to improve the overall experience for guests. In conclusion, despite the positive aspects such as the helpful staff, great location, good food, and cleanliness, it is crucial that the hotel addresses the issues of outdated decor and broken windows. Considering the negatives, I would recommend potential guests to be aware of these drawbacks and to ensure that the price reflects the hotel's need for refurbishment. With the necessary improvements, the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor could become a truly exceptional place to stay in Wellington.

Hotel was extremely overpriced for what we got $250 for two people. The room was small, not a great view, two singles pushed together for a bed, small bathroom, not enough shampoo, conditioner or body wash was provided. The dinner was way too expensive for what we got to eat, it was a dinner I could have made myself for half the price I paid, should have gone to maccas instead.Service wise, I had to order my first drink 3 times because they kept coming back after after 10min each time I ordered to tell me there was none left, they should already know this, I then had the issue with one waiter for when I asked for a vodka drink, he had to come back and asked how I liked it not knowing how it is made. Will not be staying here again, highly suggest you eat elsewhere if you do.

Very good location. Terrace room we stayed is clean and comfortable, just may need a bit update on the bathroom in the future. The service is outstanding. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Will be back there when visiting Wellington again in the future.

Rooms are a little shabby, need a refurbishment, carpet lifting, woodwork blistering from moisture, but adequate. We were in family suite 1214. Restaurant service was impeccable. Room service was disappointing. Reception check out was rude. Location is perfect being central city. Good for walking or bus routes up town.
