We were wandering around the upper levels of the Riverside Market looking for a place to eat and found Castro's. The entrance for Castro's and Nikkei are the same so you let the people know which place you are actually looking for.It was fairly early so it was quite empty and we got an outdoor table. The menu looked interesting, particularly the paella but we had a time limit so couldn't go with that option. We grabbed the beef cheeks, mushroom croquettes and the calamares, along with a small jug of the rose sangria. The sangria was nice and refreshing but it was getting on the tart side for me. The food was quite nice especially the calamares since they were tender and crisp. The flavour of the mushroom croquette was interesting. I liked the cauliflower puree with the tender beef cheeks. The portions were ok for a tapas restaurant, especially the beef cheeks.It was a nice place for some tasty food. Dessert would have been nice but we were out of time so probably for next time.

“Nice restaurant with interesting choices and very good helpful service” that was my review a year ago with 4 stars and see the comments of the owner about the missing 5star below. Now 25/3/23 we booked for Nikkei Japanese restaurant which seems that is owned and operated by the same owner of Castro. The booking done by internet all confirmed and sorted. We arrived on time and they informed us that the restaurant is booked for event and somehow the Google bookings didn’t work as they should. Our option was to go to Castro restaurant which at that stage there was anything else to do Saturday night with a child with us already 19:00. They took us to a table and they said their is a complimentary drinks from the manager for the trouble. All good we said yes …..long story short those drinks came 50 minutes after we sit, even after the food which also come in totally mess order, salad as last dish and a waiter that was coming with different dishes and asking us if that’s ours. The crazy about the drinks after they came 50 minutes later they were all WRONG order. And the really frustrating of all they tried to charge us on the bill and when I told them that was from the manager they looked that this is not it and should be only one drink not for both of us. We only had those drinks not a second round. See receipt on the photos although that 2 in front of each drinks is confusing. This is totally disrespectful and disgrace. Restaurants are part of the hospitality industry with main element the SERVICE and that part this restaurant has totally failed! Definitely we not visiting the Nikkei restaurant also after that fiasco.

A great spot to have lunch on a sunny day out on the verandah. We had some items from what I would guess is the entrees or small plates part of the menu - fried chicken, calamari, mushroom flatbread and olives & pickles. Everything except the olives & pickles was fantastic! The staff were friendly and looked after us well, and Castros use app based ordering which I used, and really liked (but you can still order from staff). Well worth checking out!

We had a late lunch and it was very quiet but still vibrant. Loved the decor and the seats were really comfy. Great staff and the paella was delicious. We didn't have to wait as long as usual as quiet.

This is a fusion of Spanish tapas and japonese. I only tried the Spanish food. Had 3 different tapas and they were all delicious and well prepared. The service was fantastic and the deco/atmosphere is also very nice and cozy.

The location, fitout and staff were exceptional, however the food although good lacked some wow - except for those Chuuros - yum!

We hosted our conference dinner at Castro's on Monday night (3rd July). There were 16 of us. Castro's did a set menu which was amazing. There was plenty to share, the food was fantastic, the service was great and everyone enjoyed themselves. Would definitely do this again and recommend to others. Thanks Castro's.
