St. Paul's Cathedral
Beautiful Cathedral located just off the Octagon in downtown Dunedin (built in the early 1900’s). This impressive gothic style, is hard to miss, adding the the beauty to this city. This is a lovely building to wander through and around. The light local stone makes the interior really feel open despite the heavy stone and narrow windows. The wardens were very informative and helpful and keen to chat. Very accessible and no CHARGE. It is not to be missed during a visit to Dunedin.

This stunning piece of architecture is a must see inside and out.. we were fortunate enough when we entered to hear the organist playing and practising which was quit a treat, you just sit there quietly an admire the stain glass windows and all the small details that have gone into the creation of this building.

Remarkable building. A very worshipful space. Evensong with the singing by the choir is a soaring experience. Bless you all!

St. Paul's Cathedral
St Paul's Cathedral is the mother church of the Anglican diocese of Dunedin in New Zealand. The church is located between the octagonal ring roads Moray Pl and The Octagon. The foundation stone was laid in 1915 and the cathedral was consecrated in 1919. From 1969 to 1971 a new modern choir was installed to replace the temporary choir that came from the old St. Pauls church. The altar was now free-standing, the windows high from the floor almost touched the ceiling. The organ of St. Paul's Cathedral has 3,500 pipes. her was built by Henry Willis III in London and installed in 1920.

Nice experience. Please donate to help with upkeep. Use the left side footpath & rear entrance to avoid the steep front steps.

St. Paul's Cathedral
Purely from a tourist point of view, it's hard to ever think there's something worth docking a star rating from a century+ old church, but being unable to visit it and enjoy the stained glass windows after 4pm does put a damper on the experience; just one more hour would be nice especially for travelers who don't come into town til that time or later usually. St Paul's stands tall above the octogon which makes for an even more beautiful sight in combination with the town hall next door. My only last thought is it wasn't as grand on the inside or ceiling as compared to the many I've seen across the world, but we are in a relatively small town so this is still far more impressive than anything we make these days.

Didn't have much time to look around the Octagon but this was one of the buildings that you pick out from all the others. A really old and majestic looking church in the Octagon. The dual spires make it easy to find amid the other historical buildings in the area. You can also get side and rear views of the church as you walk along the outer octagon.

Absolutely beautiful church to visit. All the stained glass has a story including a new stained glass window. The lady that was there was very helpful and gave us lots of information about the church and they have a prayer wall where you can right down your prayers and put them on the wall and then they are all gathered together and blessed. Beautiful procedure even if you aren't religious. Definitely a must see if you are in Dunedin.
