St James has been dark for some years while earthquake strengthening work was carried out. I have to say, they've done a great job, with all the character of the theatre interior retained, and only occasional evidence of the new steel work on view. The seating remains in the original style, that is to say, it can be a bit hard after two hours, but gives enough width and legroom to adjust for that. Seats in the stalls give a good view of the stage, even towards the ends of the rows. The best view is from the centre of the row, about five rows from the front. I've never been in the circle or gallery to comment there. Acoustics were good for the Come Together concert we attended. Hopefully the Royal NZ Ballet will return soon. Their modern productions of classics like Romeo & Juliet and Carmen have been some of the most accessible and enjoyable performances I've seen

Beautiful theatre and great décor, nice lobby and entrance. It's been nicely redone.Too bad the seats are cramped and uncomfortable after an hour, arm rests are too small which is a shame for a very nice venue.Hope they upgrade the seats in the near future reading all other similar reviews.

beautiful theatre, but the food bar sold me something they were out of stock for. took 10minutes for them to figure out how to give me a refund and it had to be in cash even when i wanted it in cardseats aren’t the best for short people, and i’m fine in every other theatre but could barely see the stage

Such a beautiful place!Legendary theater in Wellington and after undergone some renovations, it has been open and glamourously bring back the grandeur of entertainment in windy welly.I came here to see Les Miserables and it was such a beautiful performance. The new theater is comfortable, the seats are comfy, the stage is great, lightning is lovely. The toilets are clean and we have nice bar. There are seats which are disability friendly as well.Love to be back here for more performances. This theater is strategically located and many buses are passing this place. There are many cafes, bars, and restaurant in the near by area.

What a beautiful experience. This was my first ever live theatre show and everything lived up to the hype.Easy access to concession stands and importantly as a person with female anatomy SO MANY LOO'S!! Even with a full audience I barely had to wait in line

A stunning experience for a mother-daughter day out. We saw Romeo & Juliet (RNZB) at the St James. Fantastic staff, really friendly and helpful, good amenities, and the theatre itself is just beautiful. Highly recommended.

Wow...a 1912 old time theatre....quite magical and lots of people taking photo's of its magnificence. Really enjoyed our show Shen Yun there. Easy to find and great parking buildings around, with only a 4 minute walk.
