Beware the road is narrow and windy up to the ghost town that is Waiuta. But don't let that put you off as there is plenty to see and read about. There's also fairly clean flushing toilets on site too. A must visit even if it's raining a bit. Be prepared to spend awhile here.

A must visit for those interested in early gold mining history and the lifestyle people lived in these remote valleys. Find a local guide as really adds value. Try Reefton i-site.

Interesting place to visit and drive around. Public Toilets weren't working with no running water. There are some walks you can do in addition to just driving around. Road up is gravel.

We walked around so long that we lost track of time on a Sunday, got no food or accommodation in Reefton due to time, and had to sleep in our truck cab. Fantastic walks and old ruins and a view from 570m. It's up a gravel track 10km long.

Interesting and informative, don’t go if the weather is bad, definitely a bit narrow and difficult road for motorhomes. A lot of evidence of vehicles visiting the ditches.

Very interesting once past the muddy 9km of unsealed road. Lots to see, well explained by signs with a hike down to the cyanide tanks by the river and back. This was the largest gold mine in NZ.

Stunning place to visit, you will spend half a day easy exploring the old mining town, some of the building have been preserved and some are just the foundations. Make sure you walk down to the snowy river battery, it a fair hike down the hill with loads of stairs but there is heaps down there left to see. Also make sure you drive up the road to the Prohibition mine, there is the old ball mill there and heaps more to see. Great place to visit, the gravel road up there is nice and well maintained

A well hidden, but vital part of the gold mining history of NZ.Obvious restoration being started. Great sign boards and old photos allowing you to visualise what life might have been like.Good walks through the old town and area. The road in is quite long and winding, about half being unsealed. A need to drive slowly.Well recommended for a visit. Have lunch there and soak in the history.
