Fox Glacier Lookout

Extremely difficult climb on Mt Fox route. Not recommend for everyone. Ascent of 1200 mtrs continous and its very slippery. There are about 5 zones where there is 6 to 8 feet drop which you have to climb. But the view from top is extremely beautiful.

We went to the 45 minute viewpoint and the weather wasn’t great. But even so, the view was a bit average. It would probably be much better on a clear day, but we thought the viewpoint from Cook Flat Rd was a better view.

This spot provides a perfect view of the glacier. It’s easy to get to from the main road — just a few minutes detour — and it is well worth it. The park like setting is also beautiful, with Māori inspired sculptures, and one has stairs providing an elevated viewpoint over the green landscape to the mountain and glacier.We were there in the morning, and since the viewpoint faces east, the glacier was in shadow. For best views and photos, come when the afternoon sun is moving lower.

Superb spot, a short couple minutes on a very bumpy gravel road was worth it. Great view of fox glacier and surrounding mountains, easily rivals the views from matheson lake in my opinion. Often the clouds clear up near the peaks in the evenings around sunset, and this is a stunning sunset spot with views towards the glacier and mountains as well as over the fields in the opposite direction.A small forest walk is there as well with a loop, worth taking the 5-10 min walk especially if the main viewing spot around the canoe is full of people.The canoe art work representing Māori legend is elegant, decorative and enjoyable as it points right towards the glacier.At my visit in the evening, about 8-15 Kea (mostly juvenile) came out. Calling and chasing each other, climbing all over cars and pecking at antenna and edges of windows. Highly curious of the people visiting, Kea would perch on nearly anything around eye level and approach you. They clearly enjoy a good game of hide and seek around the canoe, intelligent birds they are and very amusing if you aren't too attached to your vehicle.

A short drive down an unmade road to reach an excellent long distance view of the glacier.Worth visiting if you don't have time to walk to the glacier from the other access points.

A nice easy walk to the lookout, does take about 30-40 minutes one way though.No toilet facility.

Best spot to see the glacier. Get a better view than the glacier walk and can see the huge Alps in the background. Does need to be more well signposted as drove past the first time.

If you have limit time and budget to heli fly to Fox glacier, you definitely need to come to this lookout. Easy to drive to and don’t need to walk, the glacier look out just in the car park

Such a beautiful walk into the Glacier. I was Amazed, seeing this Glacier for the second time. 43 years ago , I arrived as a young girl traveling on her own & was in awe &’now with my partner, who had never been to NZ before
