The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit

There is something peaceful about this church. If you are here, you will pray unknowingly. Your mind will calm down in the silence here no matter how restless it is. It is a blessing to this community to have a church that is so beautiful to pray in midst of the city's hustle and bustle.Beautiful altar and architecture can be seen in this church. Historical records indicate the church was originally named Saint Patrick, but was renamed the Holy Spirit Cathedral in 1980 when the Diocese of Palmerston North was established.Cathedral, designed by de Jersey Clere, was renovated, extended and reordered in 1988. The building was designated a Category 1 historic place in 1990 by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.Despite being a Gothic Revival style cathedral, it was constructed in reinforced concrete with ornamental Gothic architectural elements like lancet windows, pointed arches, and pinnacles, and its layout is typical of the style. It is surrounded by seven structural columns on each side that support pointed arches. The two side aisles feature 10 stained glass windows of Jesus' parables that were designed by Franz Xavier Zettler.Visit this church and you will be able to be touched by the beautiful paintings, the architecture, and the spiritual serenity of this place. Come here from time to time and listen to His voice!

Very beautiful cathedral, so glad we had the chance to visit this church today to admire the beautiful craftsmanship on the inside. Lovely place to pay respects to our heavenly father. God bless us all on this Christmas day.

Awesome church I have ever been did lit up the candle there it's so real nd pure feeling of God surrounded by you purely blessed.

A beautiful Cathedral! Peaceful and tranquil. We lit candles for our loved Mum and Grandma whose anniversary it was that day.

What an amazing experience we had walking through this stunning cathedral. Words cannot do this justice, it's absolutely stunning. We were assisted by 2 wonderful ladies who have us a personal tour. I tried to capture the brilliance of the stained glass windows but sadly it didn't do it justice.

Friends mums funeral. Being my first Catholic funeral I was pleasantly surprised at the format and duration of the service.

Visited during the New Year. Very quiet and peaceful without anyone around. The only issue I had was trouble finding the tabernacle.I would have preferred it to be more conspicuous.The Nativity set was beautiful.

Those artistic window decoration will blow your mind! This big huge church is a must visit. Using colors is the main thing I like here. Even there is no one on Saturday morning, I still feel the power of faith in god. How about this place full of people? Can't imagine the energy gathering.

This church looks so beautiful & stunning from outside.and when you walk into inside. It is so elegant & quiet.Luckily when we visited it. There were no one else inside at all.So, we felt so peaceful. even we don't believe any religionHighly recommend to visit this church when visit Palmerston North
