The service was good, as was the ambience but....you know you are in small town New Zealand when it's 8pm and they're closing.

It's too bad for such a beautiful bar..We were 4 looking for a good dinner after a big walk and we were all really desappointed.I ordered a steak with mushroom sauce and there was 3 little and a half mushrooms in the middle of my steak with a sauce... We can't call that a sauce. It was like water. The steak was cooked as I asked but no sauce in the salad and the fries were just tolerable. The burger of my friend was just bad (we saw just with a glance that the bread was too old). The lamb of my other friend was not cooked in some parts of it etc... I don't know the chief but for sure, he musn't like his job to serve that to customers. It was nothing crazy to cook! The waitress was allright, not rude but not pleasant. It was a Thursday, so it was a karaoke night but we were alone in the bar, with just a singer that kept singing and smiling altought the very quiet atmosphere. Thanks to her, she was the little sunshine of the bar.

On the last Saturday of each month the Thames Musicians Club runs an open mic night. Last night, lots of variety and talents showcased from new, emerging and established players and singers.Jayne and Sam, also Maia with their amazing originals. Steves stylish playing supported by Marty on harmonica. Matina's polished voice. Marks crisp drumming as well as JB's incredible electric lead sounds, and the perfection of Andrew's instrumentals. An impromptu performance from Crimson Coast a highlight. What a great night !

Not a fan of bad reviews. I want provincial places to thrive. I can overlook soggy cold chips. But a raw burger patty? And no apology or reflection on the bill?

Between this place and the junction, you've got all of Thames night life, typically you want to go here on a Friday night, sometimes there's stuff on other days of the week too. Good live music and chill atmosphere.
