Oceanic Student Hostel

Such great value for money! We didn’t have a window in our room but because of that it was really affordable. The location is great, the staff is super lovely and the rooms as well as the bathrooms and the kitchen are really clean. I don’t really get the bad reviews - it says that the rooms don’t have windows but there is sufficient light in the rooms and everything else one might need. Would definitely recommend!

Very good price and a nice place to stay. All facilities are super clean, the kitchen is spacious, and although there are no windows, there's good light everywhere. I'd recommend it.

I enjoyed my stay here and will stay again on my next trip to Auckland! You can't find much else in Auckland for this low price, yes the place is very simple, no window in my room but the main thing is that the room and bathrooms was very clean. The location is great, walking distance to all of Auckland's main attractions and public transport. I stayed on the 3rd floor and was very quiet and has a fan, good amount plugs, towel, lamp and hairdryer.

We stayed at the hostel during a five days trip in Auckland. We booked through Airbnb, and got really great prices!The place is really well located, imo. It’s in the city centre, and this close to a great variety of restaurants, cafes, markets etc.The room, the restrooms, and the common areas were extremely clean and organised. I am really surprised to read other comments (especially older ones) saying otherwise.We had access to a very complete kitchen and laundry room as well. Our room had a fridge, a heater, a sink, and of course the other basic bedroom furniture, all new or in really great condition.Ted, the manager, was always available to answer any questions we had. He was very polite when showing us the place.All in all, we would easily recommend this hostel if you are planning a trip in the city. The cost-benefit was really good and we had a pleasant stay.

I was stuck in a position where i needed a short term place to stay in the city while i found a new more permanent location.I move out at the start of next week and honestly THANK GOD. I AM CONSTANTLY SCARED. I HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY BULLIED BY OTHER PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE.not to mention the constant drinking and drug use/sales happening within the building.The website says fully equipped kitchens, and I hope fully equipped means a microwave and a sink to you because that's what it means to them.Every toilet is covered in piss. All the time. They will get cleaned and then someone comes in right after and pisses directly on the floor.I had a bag stolen by a couple who lives in the building who are wearing house arrest ankle bracelets.Add to this the lack of Windows or any kind of flowing air in the room, the constant noise AND THE PEOPLE HUFFING GLUE AT THE ENTRY???DO NOT STAY HERE.

My husband and I have stayed at Oceanic hostel for a year. In addition to its reasonable and affordable price, Ted, the manager of the hostel, is so caring, cooperative, hardworking and a very responsible individual. Actually, we were supposed to stay there only for one month. However, we changed our mind for those reasons and we really enjoyed our stay.

Absolutely filfthy, we walked in in complete shock. The furniture is so mangy and wrecked that I've found better things at the dump. They do not clean it at all, nor provide soap,towels or anything else. The bedding they gave us was used and dirty. Floors had old gum and dirt/dust all over them, as well as what appears to be old vomit and other bodily fluids... Huge holes all through the walls that have either been badly plastered over or covered with a bit of cardboard that has been sticky taped over it. No window in theroom we had - which we were not pre-warned of. And they expected $100 bond for all this? Absolutely disgusting. It's absolutely appalling and rude that they actually OFFER these rooms to people. And it's not even cheap!! We considered sleeping on a fiends hard floor with no linen in a bedroom smaller than our own simply because of how filthy and depressing the place is.DO NOT STAY THERE OR LET ANYONE ELSE.
