Kaikoura Gateway Motor Lodge

The rooms were a fantastic size and nice and tidy. Nice and close to town even though not on the main beachfront road. Close enough to the Kaikoura Whale Watch check in. The rooms are quiet and the owners are lovely and have lots of great ideas to help make your stay the best it can be. We had a great stay and would happily come back and stay again.

Clean, tidy and spacious room. Heat pump kept the room warm while I was in town and a large bath and over-bath shower had great hot water and pressure. Close to town so was an easy walk for meals.

Nice clean and tidy rooms with well appointed facilities but no air conditioning.Nice pool and spa bath.It is on a busy road given it's SH1 so not for you if you don't want traffic noise.

We enjoyed our stay here, everything you need and close to the restaurants. Thanks Kathy after so many changes in our booking due to the ferry cancellation.

Because of a travel hiccup, I ended having to book a hotel late in Kaikoura, and all that was showing on Expedia that had availability was this place. My mistake was to not see that check in ended at 8pm, yet I booked it at 10:30pm as Expedia would allow me to. Well, I showed up an hour later to a closed door and slept in my car that night.Expedia did try to get a refund for me. Guess what, this hotel kept my money. This is disgusting and not honest business. Yes I made a mistake with the check in, but to stick to your cancellation policy in such a scenario (after all I booked after check in time, so obviously a mistake) is abject.

Located on the main road into town and only a short distance from the main street this property is ideal for our regular visits to Kaikoura. We use the 2 bedroom units for our family and the kids are looking forward to summer to use the heated swimming pool. The rooms are always clean and Kathy welcomes us with a smile. Our favourite dinner spot is the Pier Hotel which is across the other side of town. You need to book a head to secure a table as it is very popular and they offer a complimentary shuttle service which means we can enjoy a drink or two.
