Bernie's Diner Kaikoura
Great classic diner with classic car museum attached, staff were very friendly (especially to wary travellers not long off the ferry crossing)We stopped for breakfast food was nice diner style food. Coffee was okay.Atmosphere is lovely and chill with awesome seating, and giftware to purchase or browse.

We almost skipped stopping by but we’re able to come for breakfast on our last day in Kaikoura. Bernie’s Diner is an amazing recreation of a 50s style diner. The tables and chairs, even the baby chairs are from the era! It’s one of the only restaurants we’ve been in NZ where they serve American style coffee, refills and all! I had the stacked pancakes and was pleasantly impressed by the size of the portions but the kicker was the abundance of syrup. Even in Canada where syrup is king many restaurants are stingy, not here, I had more than enough and loved every bite. There’s definitely passion behind the whole package here. A must!

A very cute restaurant in Kaikoura. Great service, generous portion size. Burger was filling.Personally I found the menu had just the right amount of choices on there..... very much a diner setting. Burgers, hot dogs, toasties, nachos, salads,& shakes.I thought have a classic car museum out the back was a nice touch (this cost extra as its a private collection)

Overall atmosphere was nice with a retro vibe. Visually it was appetizing. But food wasn’t anywhere close to good. The quality of the meat was worrying : industrial meat taste, I wonder if there was even beef inside. Very disappointing for a New Zealand restaurant to have such poor quality meat.I do not recommend for Burgers and meat lovers.

Bernie's Diner Kaikoura
Food was awesome. My partner had the big breakfast and she loved it. I had the Eggs Bernie, (eggs benedict), and it was cooked to perfection. Very tasty. Atmosphere was just perfect for the diner experience. Museum was cheap and the cars were very cool to look at. The pictures don't do them justice.

Stopped in on our way through, because who doesn’t want to experience this ambiance!Unfortunately, we happened to arrive at 11:00 at which time breakfast service ends and sadly lunch service doesn’t begin until 11:30am. So, options were limited to drinks or sweets from the cabinet.All was not lost, we soaked up the atmosphere and had a good coffee.

A lot of work has been put into Bernie's Diner to make it as close to the old 50s American diners as possible, and it shows! It's like you've stepped back in time (and into America - if you're ok with that?). The decor is awesome, the booths are cool and the whole ambience is great, complete with time relevant music. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was really good (we were in for breakfast) and the coffee was on point. Bernie's Diner is well worth checking out if you're in Kaikoura!

Friendly service, in a really fun setting, with great food!The vegetarian pattie burger can be made vegan, and it was great! As can the slaw, by having it with pesto (which is a super tasty way to have slaw!).The filter coffee was great, there's no need to add milk to it.Impeccably clean, which is not something I usually notice, but Bernie's Diner was incredibly clean - everything shined.The perfect stop between Nelson and Christchurch for lunch!
