If you are on the South Island, this is an absolute must see. From the beginning, the hosts provided a very accurate, and sometimes funny, description of what you will encounter on the shoreline. Once you make the walk down, you will first see a raft of apprehensive penguins, who, after much deliberation, will finally make their way up the path directly in front of you. The first raft will soon be followed by raft after raft of penguins who make wakes on their way inbound. If you are as lucky as us, you may also see an amazing amount of stars and the Southern Cross. Finally, we were amazed to have a little blue penguin walk up the stairs with us, but please be careful to not shine lights on them.Enjoy an amazing night with the penguins. Highly recommended!

Definitely a must visit. Best tour we've done in New Zealand so far! It's so much fun to see all those cute penguins. The guides are also very enthusiastic and have a lot of knowledge. A nice initiative.

Such an amazing experience. Seeing the penguins in such a natural state running up the beach is incredible. The team running the tours are terrific, teaching you all about the Polynesian natives of the area, the significance of the area to the Maori. They even brought home baked cookies! Had such an amazing time, learned a ton and frankly loved it. Thanks guys!Make sure you bring a warm coat!

We were so happy to spot the small blue penguins on the tour. They are really tiny and cute. The guides were very passionate and friendly. They gave us really lot of interesting information and knew lot about all the animals and flora on the peninsula.

Went here with my family and it was amazing, we were incredibly lucky and would have been worth it for the sunset views alone. We did however go for the blue penguins, and even though they were a bit late in due to the bright sky, we managed to see large groups coming onto the beach. You are so close to the penguins, only about a meter away at times, so got some, lovely photos and videos of the baby penguins asking the adults for food. The tour guide was great and had great knowledge and ability to help the whole group out to spot the penguins swimming to shore.Additionally to the above we managed to see a few fur seals and have a little overview of the rest of the reserve.Highly recommend.

Just finished up our Penguin tour. The guides were very knowledgeable and shared some great info about the penguins. The viewing deck was awesome we got to see about 150 penguins and 3 seals on the nearby rocks. You can hear the penguins under the viewing deck and their calls. This was a truly magical experience. Please come and book the tour you will love it and it'll go a long way to helping support the conservation efforts.

Absolutely amazing place to visit and see the penguins. Not only was the view of the penguins amazing but so was the tour and the talk given by the staff. All the proceeds go towards the center and looking after the penguins, would definitely recommend, was a once in a life time experience.

Spent a wonderful, if chilly evening watching the arrival of the penguins. We enjoyed a similar evening on Philips Island in Australia. While this event had a much smaller number of penguins arrive, the beauty was the small intimate group of people watching. Other benefits were the ability to take photos and videos of them (no flash!). Overall a delightful evening! I highly recommend this activity.
