Huntly Camping Grounds

Tidy campground, clean bathrooms, serene locality (just by the lake), close to all shops and affordable!If you are planning to camp in and around Waikato, do consider this place.

We called and the office was closed, and the woman who answered was quite curt in letting us know they had already closed. We were in Hamilton and it was our last night in New Zealand and I had forgotten to book a place to stay (we were in a campervan). We drove to the Hamilton holiday park to see if we could just pull in and stay the night and pay in the morning (as we had per the manager's advice in Kaiteri Beach), but there was a gate. We called all the local motels and holiday parks, and they were all closed.My fiance was really frustrated and tired (he was the one driving all day, and it was my job to book the place we were staying) and went to sleep in the back of the campervan. After almost two more hours of searching, I realized I would have to just drive from holiday park to holiday park heading north towards Auckland (where we were flying out the next day). I went to Huntly simply because it was the next closest option. It was after midnight by this point, and I was exhausted and needed to find a place to stay. When we arrived there was no gate (hallelujah!) and three open powered campervan spots. I hooked us up, and read the chalkboard that said, Overnight campers park in spots 2

BEWARE of a old creepy guy named Chris. I spoke with a few of the people that live here for many years and they've said he's a perv and likes to stare into people's cabins and business. It's best to ask about this to the camp managers, Carol and Dave before making a booking here.

Very Clean, tidy and friendly staff. Great place to stop for a night.

Good campground and reasonably priced. Well-kept, good bathroom with STRONG shower pressure, (also nice to have a code for the women's bathrooms). Decent kitchen, and water filter which was greatly appreciated.The hosts are really accommodating, despite us arriving late and unannounced, (pulled off the highway for a break and stumbled upon the place).Be wary of theft, especially if you park on the lakeside next to the public path. Keep everything locked in your van at night, as there were some guys on bikes riding around the lake late in the night and they approached our van and stuff before they got scared off when I turned light on. It was creepy. They were definitely scouting, so be extra secure with any stuff!The walk around the lake during the day is really nice and we'll worth doing. I took a pram and no problems. Flat, and approx. 3kms. There's also an indoor pool next to the campsite and two kids playgrounds, so a good spot for kids.

We stayed 2 nights on an unpowered grass site in our motorhome.The park has a very pleasant feel and a great outlook over the lake.We left some unused food products and a couple of camping chairs at the camp kitchen as we have ended our holiday in NZ. The owners asked if it was OK for the items to be donated to the local food bank for the local community, which we gladly agreed.The washing machines and dryer work very well.The amenities block was clean with great water pressure..A nice hidden gem not far from Hamilton or Auckland.If you're starting or ending your motorhome journey in Auckland this is a great 1st night or last night stay.

Excell, clean facilities.Helpful managers.A few permanents but well managed and we felt safe.Recommended.

An awesome place to stay, with nice tidy grounds and facilities right beside the lake. I pitched a tent on their spacious lawn area undercover of the trees. It was a nice quiet place waking up to the many Pukekos and other birds walking around your campsite in the morning. And the showers have amazing water pressure, i absolutely loved them. The very friendly and welcoming couple Dave and Carol are onsite to help you with any problems and they even recommended a popular food takeaways in the main street that has some pretty good deals for single meals and low cost family deals too. Also i found the majority of the other people in the campground were really friendly and welcoming to fellow campers. An all round decent place to stay for any events nearby or if you're just passing through Huntly. I will definitely be staying with them again the next time i'm down that way.
