Amazing bookshop! The owner is super friendly and offered a coffee when he made himself one. So many books to look through and choose from. Will definitely be back for more once I’m through with the lot I got today.

Went to look for 2 much loved NZ books. Came out with 2 different NZ books with my original choices noted for the future. Wonderful selection and altogether too tempting

DSHOB is located next door to the Vet Clinic at the Waterloo Shops, opposite the Waterloo Station in Lower Hutt and is full of surprises. Their window display is delightfully entertaining with all kinds of quirky souvenirs. There are no shortage of books especially if you're hunting for older relics, so try here as it may not have been so picked over compared to other secondhand bookstores elsewhere. If you are an Everly Brothers diehard fan (the remaining brother having passed away just recently, age 86) you should check out HOB's window display as there is currently a neat little souvenir that may pique your interest...which is so cool to see!

I first visited Des Schollum’s House Of Books in 1999 when I was six. It gave me a love for books and the extraordinarily well curated collection keeps me coming back as an adult. I don’t live in Lower Hutt anymore but whenever I’m in Wellington my top priority is to catch the train to Waterloo and buy some books from Des. Very highly recommended.

This is one of my favourite shops to visit especially if I am looking for something new to read. The owner is super helpful and friendly. And the selection of books is absolutely amazing. I could sit for hours looking the books that are on offer

What an excellent bookshop!! So many great books to choose from. Organised and tidy with room to linger and browse. Family friendly! Just spent the most relaxing morning there with our 9 month old and 3 year old. The owner was polite, helpful and friendly while leaving us to our pondering. A table with toys was available for our toddler and the owner was relaxed and happy for our toddler to play, move books, stack books and browse in her happy way. We were offered a coffee when he was making some for himself. Couldn't recommend it enough. We will be back.

Best second hand book shop in town. Lots to choose from, and all catalogued so Des can let you know quickly if he has what you are looking for. The window display is awesome too.

Absolutely chocka with books, and has that nostalgic bookshop smell. I could have spent so much longer in there than I did, there's so much to choose from!
