Port Marlborough situated in Picton is the gateway to the South Island. Picton is the first stop to welcome passengers from Cruise Ships, the two Interisland Ferries, The Inter-Islander and The Blue bridge Ferries, Fishing Boats, to Cargo Ships, and many of the locals who goes sailing on the weekends, and of The Charter Boat Operators in Marlborough which are on hand to take visitors, and many of the locals on Cruises around the Marlborough Sounds and, The Queen Charlotte Sounds, stopping at a numerous number of little bays dotted throughout The Marlborough and, Queen Charlotte Sound's. Both Sounds are a world of their own, with both offering plenty of activities for both tourist's and locals to enjoy and admire. There are guided tours consisting of Track Walking, Tramping, farm stay tours, along with fishing boat charters where you get to keep the fish that you catch.Picton itself is, as I mentioned earlier is the gateway to the South Island, with a population of a diverse culture, starting from The Local Maori's, through to people of many nationalities who have come to Picton and fell in love, so they decided to make Picton and the Marlborough Sounds their home.I myself, come from Tolaga Bay a little Maori settlement 35 kilometres north of Gisborne on the East Coast of the North Island, my Iwi, (Maori for Tribe) is Ngati Porou. I have been living in Picton since April of this year, and I can believe why many travelers have made Picton their home. I have a saying which goes along these lines, It's Not The Place Where You Go To
