Great place to stop after a thoroughly wet drive up the River Road. Toasted cheese and ham sandwich and a coffee helped our mood! Lovely chat with the staff, really nice break also found out the road further on was blocked by a fallen tree. By the time we left road had been cleared, though rain fell more heavily. Not a day for the views!

We visited Matahiwi Cafe and Gallery while riding Mountains to Sea Great Ride. It was the perfect place to stop for breakfast and pick up lunch to eat further down the road. Home made bacon and egg pie and blueberry muffin. Food was excellent and Cafe owners really friendly. Highly recommend

About 22km from Pipiriki this cafe is. just the right distance for Mountains to the Sea riders to take a break. The setting is lovely, the tea and coffee good and the home made food superb. And the clean toilets a real bonus.

We stayed a night after a day on the River and seriously loved it! The simplicity combined with the eye for detail was just delightful. The new kitchen is particular cute! The host was also very helpful getting our gear from pipiriki! Thanks so much!

A beautiful building, full of charming retro and vintage finds, delicious food from a dedicated hostess and on-site cabins if you want to squirrel yourself away from a crazy world.

Good but ridiculously expensive at $130 for 2 in a basic cabin. I'd call it, taking advantage of hikers caught in bad weather!

We loved stopping here for lunch. The coffee was absolutely delicious - best coffee I have had on these travels - and the people were wonderful!
