Adrift Tongariro

Had an amazing time on the hike. Friendly group of people and our guide was just amazing. Lovely company with great employees made me feel so comfortable and safe from start to finish. One of the best experiences of my life for sure :) Highly recommend for anyone who loves nature and is up for a bit of a challenge.

Amazing winter hike up to Tongariro Crossing yesterday. Adrift is Highly commended.We enjoyed the whole process. The customer service over the phone are friendly, helpful and informative. The guides Zee and Caroline are experienced, fun and are also our dedicated photographers! They explained what to expect next at each stop along the whole walk. The morning check-in was efficient and we started the walk punctually as planned even with a big group of 20.We enjoyed very much this great walk with the stunning views.Thanks Adrift and mother nature, and the weather god for such a calm and sunny winter day!

My sister and I had an incredible time hiking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing with Adrift. Our tour guide Stu was knowledgeable and competent. He made sure we had all the gear we need and that we were comfortable every step of the way. Adrift also made sure to communicate with us in advance regarding any weather changes and they were willing to pivot plans last minute for us when the weather changed. We loved our experience!

Great Tongariro guided hiking in National park.Most of people thinks the price 360$ is incredible expensive, but it’s more than nothing if you are injured and rescued by helicopter in the Tongariro alpine crossing especially winter season.Stew and Gewn is professional guide.

The whole team is easy to work with and flexible. The guides were nice, approachable, and fun to talk to. They are very knowledgeable about the mountain and New Zealand ecology. It was clear they wanted everyone to have fun and succeed. Instructions were clear. I paid to have a provided lunch and it was tasty. I felt set up for success at every step.

Did the Alpine Crossing yesterday with the family, and it was a truly unique experience. Stew and Phil were great guides, funny and engaging, and helping to encourage us through the tough parts.Despite the gnarly weather that meant we couldn't quite make it over the top, we felt safe the whole way.Adrift provided great gear for the snowy conditions, highly recommend them if you're thinking of doing this amazing hike.

Initially booked for the 3 day northern circuit but we weren't able to proceed due to weather forecast. Thankful for Stew and his team for being so adaptive, their experience and knowledge really showed. We were able to complete 3 full day hikes instead, covering almost the same grounds as we would have in the northern circuit and more (50km/3day instead of the planned 35km). The guides, Stew and Phil, are such warm and genuine people. We had such an amazing time on the mountains and hope to come back again one day. Would 100% recommend Adrift if you're looking for a peace of mind while on these mountains with unpredictable weather!

Completed the Tongariro Crossing with Wayne yesterday. He was a great guide. Chilled but also gave us great insight on the different elements of the route and the history. The walk was amazing and we were so lucky with the weather enabling some amazing views!

We completed the Tongariro Crossing in a respectable 7.5hrs and we were even overtaking people on the difficult up hill parts of the climb, however as we approached the Red Crater our guide, Stu, questioned our abilities and threatened to turn us around due to timing concerns. On top of this, before we tackled the Devils Staircase our guide attempted to have one of the members of our party give their backpack to another member of the group. Whilst this was likely done with the best intentions at heart it was interpreted as demeaning and upsetting as it made them feel like they weren’t capable, even though they were, and were tackling the climb to the same standard as every other member of the group. These two incidents ruined the atmosphere and moral within the group, and most importantly ruined our time at the summit. Whilst we should have been taking in the scenery and views, we felt like we needed to keep on walking and begin the descent or risk not being able to complete the hike. All in all we enjoyed the experience more when our guide allowed us to walk ahead unaccompanied and if we were to do the crossing again we would use another tour company, or most likely go un-aided.

Internet friends!I'd love to share with you that we had an excellent climb Mt Ruapehu as a tight-knit group of friends with Stew Barclay, one of the instructors. It was just a super relaxed and feel-good time. Gorgeous views the whole way.We'd like to thank the team at Adrift for their professionalism, good quality chats and story-telling as we all ascended and descended the mountain in the snow. Sliding down was pretty awesome too. I'm definitely coming up here with my brother and sister.Enjoy our photos!
