We were blessed with beautiful weather. The walks are gentle and fairly easy, no real hill climbs. For most of the way we walked on proper roads or tracks. The grass is in need of mowing before the horses return for their event, I think it is mostly in January. With borders closed there was very little noise from the airport, but that only adds to the interest when planes are coming and going as in 'other' times.

Puhinui Reserve
Puhinui Reserve is a lesser known reserve located in Wiri. It features three maar (volcanic craters) which were only identified as volcanic features in 2011.There is diverse bird life and sheep visible from the walking trails. The track is accessible throughout winter as it is well gravelled. You can easily find an hour of good walking there.While walking, you'll enjoy panoramic views of the Manukau Harbour as well as looking back towards Matukutureia (McLachlan's Hill).There is a good foundation of restoration planting done and a lot of potential to develop this further.
