Awesome place to take the kids to explore the tunnels. I suggest taking a torch or head lamp to make it a more exciting adventure, as it can be dark in some parts. Proper footwear is also recommended. There are lots of parking and if not enough there is also an overflow carpark.

Awesome place. Well kept walks, although some downed trees and slips were on some of the paths after the storms. Scenery is outstanding, information on area is available on information boards, and my family had an awesome time. Couple of points though, parking is limited and highly sought after. Get there early. And one of the walks (windows walk) was closed at the end, but it didn't tell you this at the start of the walk, only once you got there.

Always a beautiful serene stop at karangahake gorge. Since the recent cyclone and related flooding the railway tunnel walk is closed due to significant slips on the entrance walk, we also found the windows walk closed around 1/3 way along as you reach the tunnels. Beautiful place to stop and stretch your legs, plenty of parking and bathrooms, also great doing bridges to play on. Would be great if the walks were sign posted as closed

Great walk with the 4 & 7 yr olds - highly recommend! Take a picnic lunch to eat on the river… needed to refuel everyone to get the energy to go back through the tunnel as you cannot do the full loop. Torches not needed but fun for the kids. FYI - you do share the tunnel with cyclists also.

A really cool spot. Was somewhat sad that the windows and tunnel circuits were both closed due to debris blocking the tracks. Would love to see the tracks maintenance improved but overall a really neat spot. Crazy to think of how massive the gold mine and processing facilities would have been back in the day. The rail tunnel was really neat.

The Karangahake Gorge is a popular hiking and biking spot located in the North Island of New Zealand. The gorge features stunning natural scenery, including waterfalls, tunnels, and old mining relics. It's a must-visit spot for anyone who loves the great outdoors!

Great sightseeing opportunity, for a decent little walking break on your way to Waihi or Tauranga. The different trails, guide you through old Goldmining relics and beautiful scenery, went through the old railway tunnel, back besides the gorge. The windows walk was closed due to maintenance but the rest was open and really enjoyable. There is quite a bit of information about the history of the area aswell. The loop walk was roughly an hour plus minus. Worth a stop and walk around if you’re passing by.

A beautiful place with many hiking tracks that are easy to complete. I had a great time there with my family and friends. It's also a great place to take photos with different views to pick and choose. Just keep in mind that some of the tracks might be closed. When I went the tunnel was open but not the full track loop, so we had to go through the tunnel twice.

The family and I absolutely loved it here. The sound of the water, the nice walks along the trails, a pity the landslide prevented us from seeing all the caves, definitely worth the stop.

Great place to go for a walk or a cycle. Kids love the old train tunnel which is a must. Unfortunately some of the areas were closed from the floods so we couldn't get to the windows or the old mine shaft. Will have to go back again when they're open!
