Rocky Lookout

Nice views of some of the Tararua peaks you can just make out the trig on Mt Holdsworth on a clear day. Aswell as the roof of Powell hut.

Lovely walk up to this place , easy track for all ,if you walk at a steady pace ... it doesn't take as long as they mention, I did it in half the time ... I have averaged Fitness... well worth the view at the top , good seating area to relax with your lunch or a good book ,as the view over Waiarapa is Perfect on a clear day... if not fit .probably 1 an a half hours walk ...beautiful bush walk , there are other great walks there as well...and some nice easy ones , even if your 90years old ... lots of older people go there often. Lovely place, lots of well set out camping areas ,very tidy and well maintained, tents or campers ...its one of the best I feel !!

A challenging but rewarding uphill climb. Took about 2 hrs 20 min to reach the top and come down with a 5 year old. There are quite a few steps but the track is well maintained. Majority is covered by bush but is quite exposed when you reach the top.

Parked up at the end of mt Holdsworth road to complete the Donnelly Flat Loop Walk. Decided against doing the Rocky Lookout due to the weather.Unfortunately part of the Donnelly Flat Loop Walk was closed due to maintenance so we only completed half the walk. It's a shame that this was not notified on signage at the beginning of the walk.The part we walked was interesting, there being a picnic area and BBQs part way round. We also walked part of the way to Atiwhakatu.UPDATE: Came back to do the Rocky Lookout on a sunny day today. The walk was well worth it, my wife who suffers bad arthritis and has a replacement knee managed by taking it easy with plenty of rests. It would have been nicer if there had been a few benches along the way to rest. She found the steps most challenging coming back down, however she did comment that at least the steps weren't too high so easier to navigate for her. The path although muddy in places was quite firm and walkable.

Beautiful walk and mostly under the tree canopy. The forest is amazing and truly something to experience as you feel like you are on top of the world and see far beyond what you expect. See people from every age and walk of life along the route sharing in this breath taking fest.

Stunning views and a very nice area to relax and appreciate them.

Great view, worth the hike!

As someone with pretty low fitness this wasn't as easy walk, but with many stops along the way I made it. Make sure you have shoes with good grip as the track was very wet and slippery. Take water as well!

Worth the hour hike from the campsite

Great approximately 50min walk from Holdsworth carpark. Good waking track with a mix of steps. Top part has a few more rocks to navigate but not difficult. Places you can stop for a breather if needed. The views are spectacular over Wairarapa Valley on a sunny day.
