Walking around public gardens are one of our favourite things to do. And the bonus is that they have free admission. Timaru Botanic Gardens are one of our favourites - there is so much to see and do at these gardens. Though aim to visit when the sun is shining. Not only are there many different types of gardens, there is also an aviary, a pond where you can feed the ducks as well as a conservatory and fernery. Along one side of the gardens you'll find the Cenotaph War Memorial and SC War Memorial Wall.

Botanic Garden Timaru is one of the best spots to visit and relax and play for kids/ families or to be alone during the four seasons. Its grandeur of nature design and blooming flowers in a variety of its kind, distinct collections of mature plants and trees mesmerized your inner soul. And it's a bonus for us because it's just across our beautiful haven.

We attended the illumination light show, very well done and a great venue. Only negative, we had a young puppy and were told at the gate no dogs, this was not mentioned anywhere at the time we purchased tickets, but apparently was posted on their page on Friday....well after we got tickets. If this is to be a rule then it needs advising to patrons at the time tickets go on sale.

Timaru Botanical Gardens is paradise on earth. An amazing journey thru the park with such beauty and variety of trees, Rhododendron is genus, and ponds to sit by. A place to visit over and over again and is never tiresome. Truly a spectacular place not to be missed.

Large site to visit. Plenty of different areas to see, but a bit bland in winter. Fernery and conservatory at the start were the best, and view of lower lake from road edge is beautiful.Very little winter colour unfortunately. Something like mass plantings of hellebores, azaleas, rhodos, cyclamen etc would help brighten it up a bit. A few spring beds just being planted up at the top. Place has lots of potential as plenty of space available to add more interest, and when the roses are back in bloom, it will certainly be bright and cheery.

Great location to spend a lunchtime or longer. Plenty of shaded areas to sit and enjoy the surrounds on a scorching day.

Really nice and relaxing place! We visited over the period of the lights festival and it was really awesome!Nice walk round tye place with entertainment with musical backdrop. Some fast food stands and playground was built. There was a fee to enter but was an acceptable amount for the event. Ticket could be purchased online but also at the entrance.Throughly enjoyed the visit there.

A great place for walls with a toddler. Great playground. Slightly had to access the playground - no close by parking, and a hill to get to the closest parking which can be tricky with a baby and/or toddler
