Paperfish

Passing through town we happened upon Paperfish. What drew us in were the two girls in the kitchen rockin out to a lil Katy Perry. Not to mention their Dad (Santa on his off time) also having a great time cause the two girls were so infectious! We thought how nice it was to see people enjoying their job so much! Plus who doesn’t love a lil fish and chips. Let me tell you we had zero regrets. After a brief wait, accompanied by Katy, The food is wicked. I had the Tarakihi fish- excellent! The batter was perfect, crispy, not too salty. And the fish was delish! My partner had the BBQ burger - devoured it. And the chips… one scoop would feed a family of four. Not to mention the price can’t be beat on the south island. 10/10 will recommend it to literally everyone. It was so refreshing and wholesome to see a business where the people there really enjoy being there.

Fantastic fish & chips and burgers! Its been a few yrs since I've had such a good fish and chips meal! The fish i had was just the cheapest on the menu, was beautifully fresh with a perfect batter, crispy, lovely flavour, not too thick or too thin. The chips are crispy and deliciously well fried....the burgers are absolutely Massive! Loaded with delicious salads, sauces and beautiful thick home made beef pattie. You cannot go wrong with this place!

First time in Picton (from North) and wanted good ole Fish and Chips. Came across this place.Nice and simple shop, seems to be where locals come. Owners were pleasant Kiwi couple. But,Food was very expensive (compared to home).Ordered the Tarakihi, was $10! Half scoop chips cost $5, nuggets $6.60 , hot dog $3.50 and sweet corn bites $1.60 for 2, and 4 buck burger". Believe we were incorrectly charged the credit card surcharge fee when I used a normal eftpos. So make sure you don't get stung for that.Very disappointed in Tarakihi

Warm weekend day, lined up to order and witnessed a few refunds due to running out of fish. Fine. Got to counter to order and there was no ‘hi’ a mere shrug of the shoulders and told “30 minutes to 45- I don’t know” that set off the guy behind us as we left who proceeded to argue he’d been waiting for longer than that…

Ordered dinner from paperfish while visiting Picton for NYE celebrations on advisement of friends who lived in the area. We were thoroughly impressed with our meal. It was a shame that we couldn’t order over the phone as no one picked up our multiple attempts to call. So we had to drive in to order.We ordered an assortment of seafood, fried foods, chips and burgers to feed 6 people with the price being more than reasonable.We were thoroughly impressed with the freshness and quality of the food and the portion sizes. Although they only had 1 type of fish available, it was thick and had a good fish to batter ratio. The fish, along with the burgers were delicious and the sausages, battered sausages, hot dogs and chips were cooked well and not oily.Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a takeaway meal with restaurant quality.

Our order was completely forgotten after waiting in clear view for 45 minutes, presumably our order ticket was thrown in the bin. Overheard that the staff there were 13 and learning on the job without supervision. Staff unequipped to deal with customers, operating incredibly inefficiently. Heard them discussing customers rudely. Multiple things on the menu unavailable.

We had amazing fish & chips at Paper Fish. Came late and the team served a dozen of us in grand style. Can’t wait to come back!

Food was really tasty. I fully recommend ordering the Smokey BBQ. I also ordered kumara chips and it was amazing. i just hoped it would have less salt in it, but overall it was a delightful meal!

Best fish and chips I've had in a loooooong time! Fresh, made properly and generous portions. To top that off the service was friendly and honest. Would highly recommend, now I know why there were non stop lines of people ordering food.

Consistency is badly needed at this shop. We made an order and our fish was so dry it could almost snap. I have never had such overcooked fish. BUT our chips were so good! Loved them. Our friends got dinner about an hour later and we saw their fish. It was double the size and they said it was absolutely DELICIOUS. BUT they said their chips were not good at all. Soggy and undercooked. How is this possible only an hour apart!?
