What an experience. Cathie (farmer in her own right working alongside her husband Sam) is amazing. Loves every sheep, horse, lamb and pig on their huge farm nestled under the Southern Alps. So environmentally conscious and so willing to share all that is farming on their working farm. I will happily recommend Benlea to my clients.

We have been travelling in NZ and it was our last night in Windwhistle and we wanted to do a farm tour and see some animals. We phoned Benlea tours and enquired however it was after closing hours and Cathie and her daughter were very accomodating and so friendly and offered us an opportunity to come see their farm and animals after hours. Cathie and her daughter were very knowledgeable and passionate about farming and the care of their animals. We learned a lot about farm life in a short amount of time, and the challenges they face. Cathie allowed my husband and I to help feed her lambs who were only 1 week old! Normally you don’t have lambs in the winter so it was an amazing experience. A must see is their sheep George who we saw running down the field when called, which was a funny sight as he had a big character that’s for sure! We highly recommend Benlea farm to anyone travelling in the Mt. Hutt region. They have accomodation too with lovely mountain views.

Magical

A truly wonderful experience! The hosts were warm and friendly, deeply knowledgable, and clearly passionate about their animals. Over 2 hours we got to meet the sheep dogs, several mobs of sheep, a few of the angus cows, and rounded the experience hand feeding some exceptionally friendly sheep. This is a can’t miss if you’re in the Christchurch / Lake Tekapo area.
