Golden Island Chinese Restaurant

First time visit. You can have yum char or other dishes on the menu. What I have ordered is tasty and good portion. Will come back to try other dishes.

Really good food. Service is amazing. reading the reviews made me think that people come when the chefs are there alone and are going out back to cook food in which I've experienced before . Other than that absolutely amazing will definitely keep coming back.

We encountered very pleasant and helpful staff, a good range of dishes, and the food was delicious. Golden Island is a sound dining out option in Oamaru. The prices are also very reasonable. I'll be going there again soon.

Awesome restaurant! We ordered a family meal set, perfect for 4 pax. Sweet & sour pork and roasted chicken are the best dishes ever. Even better if replace sweet corn soup with classic Chinese soup :) definitely recommend to come back again!

Good service. Delicious Jasmine tea. Fast, hot and tasty food. Couple of minor things but not worth moaning about. Would definitely return if we're down this way again. Recommended.

The flavor is so wonderful,it's the best dinner I get since I come to New Zealand.They are very traditional and suits for everyone.My friends like them too.They said they haven't tasted better duck.

The woman at the front counter cannot be faulted and did her best as well as apologising for our long wait. However, the sweet and sour fish dish was simply 2 pieces of battered fish over which was poured a not very nice sauce that tasted like tin. I could have done better with fish from the takeaways. Also, while it took a long time coming, we had eaten that well before my husband's dish arrived. At least 2 people, who ordered after us were served before us. A customer, who appeared also to be part of the staff, went through to the kitchen and banged into the busy woman bringing out a hot dish. We had a meeting to go to and had ordered with plenty if time but had to eat in a rush to get there. We had deliberated between Noodle Canteen, which serves its sweet and sour in either rice or noodles and which gives more for less money or the restaurant. We chose the wrong one. Disappointing.

If this is the highest rated Chinese in Omar’s then I’d hate to try the worst ! I don’t normally give bad reviews but this was so bad I couldn’t not do it!! Foo yung is basically egg veg and meat. Tiny amount of pork that was actually very tasty! Frozen mixed veg and egg that had flour in like a kinda batter mix. I fed the seagulls with it and they didn’t seem to like it either. Chicken fried rice. Ok it was edible but after reading the reviews I certainly had reasonable expectations. We opted for easy to cook simple food that you can’t go wrong with and can easy cook at home. Just in case it wasn’t up to scratch ! Ha well ? . And to top it off o fork to eat it as we got a takeaway. And trust me I’m not one to leave bad feed back but I felt I really had to.

I loved their roast duck! It's the only meal I found to have an authentic Chinese taste. I tried other dishes but didn't find them authentic and quite tasteless. However, if you go there on Friday around 6:30-7pm, there is no way you get served as there is a huge group of tourists coming from a bus trip coming to have dinner. I waited for 30 min and nobody took my order so we left!
