Bay Plaza Hotel

I had a one night stay on the 20th May 2023. At my checkout at around 6am the next morning I had an unpleasant exchange with the lady who processed my checkout when I mentioned I had a car park - which she noticed there wasn't any charge for. Her intial response assumed I had parked there on my own accord. No questions were asked, it wasn't until I mentioned that later into the evening the night before I had enquired at the front desk about a carpark at which point I was offered a free carpark.I didn't appreciate being accused of any wrong doing, repeatedly advised the guest carparks were to be paid for and then advised next time there wouldn't be a complimentary carpark. What's amusing is after being treated like that you think I would come back?To the young lady who was working on the desk on the Saturday evening - thank you for the great customer service which started with a smile. The lady who checked me out could learn something from you.

Breakfast wasn't freshly cooked unless you were early. Dinner wasn't available due to lack of chefs. Very disappointed as we had stayed before and was a lot better. Great location easy to walk to eateries and cafés.

Absolutely love the place. Courteous staff, excellent location near shops, bars and restaurants but still tucked away in a quiet corner. Great value.

GREAT place to stay being close to Te Papa and the Sunday markets. I have stayed here every time I come to Wellington for exhibitions at Te Papa. Only a 5 min walk, or $6 cab ride if raining

Jim Beam homegrown was on, so I got to hear some awesome music as we could see the park stage from our room. Went to sleep listening to Shapeshifter. Woke up at 11.10pm to total silence, surprisingly quiet for the number of people in attendance.

Reading previous negative reviews after making my booking I was concerned. I requested a room above the 6th floor, facing the harbour and away from the elevators. My request was honoured with a room on the 9th floor, spectacular views and it was very quiet. The staff (Scarlett Lee and others) were super kind, friendly an accommodating. I had to leave luggage and groceries at reception as I was checking in later and when I got back everything was already in my room. Very clean and pleasant!!

Very disappointed in this overpriced and dated facility. Pathetically small single beds placed far too closely to each other, not comfortable either. Fridge so noisy we needed to switch it off. Quilts on the bed not that clean. Water is far too hot too. No air conditioning.... room was hot and windows needed to be left open letting in extremely loud road noise.$230.00 for this room is a joke. Interesting that I could have got a room there for $150.00 if I had not prebooked. This place is a rip-off and the further $20.00 per night for parking compounds the rip-off.

What we enjoyed about the Hotel:- Great location! It’s a 5min walk to Courtenay Place where there’s plenty of restaurants and bars to check out- Staff are friendly (front of house & house keeping)- They gave us complimentary check out till 11am- Room was spacious and beds were comfortable- They allow storage of suitcases for free after checkout while we continue to explore the cityWhat could have made it a 4-5 star hotel:- The hotel is very dated and could do with a bit of upgrade in the rooms- Lifts are small. There might be a bit of a wait as can only fit 2 people with their luggage in there. A couple squeezed in with their luggage while 2 of us were already in there and it wasn’t pleasant.- No air conditioning in the rooms. We had to close our curtains before we left our room so that when we returned it wasn’t as hot because the fans didn’t really do much- Bathroom shower is like a cubicle, can be a bit claustrophobic as there’s no air vent above the shower- The air vent in the bathroom was above the toilet but the dust on there was thick- The walls are thin you can hear peoples TV when you come out of the lift

Good location close to restaurants for dinner. Fairly old hotel but clean. Really didn't experience any service from staff, not all that friendly & didn't look like there was anyone around.

My stay at Bay Plaza Hotel was pleasant. They gave me a good price, a clean comfortable room.Scarlett guided me patiently through the booking.Location is the best part, everything at walking range.Might be not great, for someone who has a sensitive sleep. But otherwise, I have had no trouble with my stay.24hrs reception help available.Would definitely recommend.
